I don't understand how Mcbain couldn't be in shape. He was playing in finland the past couple of months. Did he get injured?

McBain is fine, they just want to prove to themselves that he and Sanguinetti are interchangeable. That's not the case.

That's my feeling right now too.
Things will improve. But we definitely don't have the "spark" right out of the gate this year.

Aside from 05-06 I can't recall a season where we have ever had the "spark" right from the get-go.
I want to say it's because of the shortened season but this team has some issues that need addressing.

Improvement: We're only down by 2 after the first, instead of 4

Miss most of the first, seems like I didn't miss anything unexpected...
Was either one Ward's fault?

First was a solid deflection by Pyatt on a weird shot. Second was a rebound out front of a shot he should have had, but they were both poorly defended.

second one, he should have covered up instead of just staring at the puck.. Both bad plays defensively though of course.

He could have maybe covered up the 2nd one but Staal and Sanguinetti fubared that one more I think.

First one no. Second one, yeah he should have stopped that.

Enought Corvo hate, let's hate on Sangs instead. Weak ass defense has led to three goals in two games. All almost singlehandedly his fault.
Other thoughts:
Gleason had two awful pinches and Faulk saved his ass both times.
Bowman is fast.
J. Staal looks out of shape.
E. Staal looks better this game.
Semin is pretty damn good at passing the puck on the PP. If he could only hit the net with a shot.
Ward looks like he's battling the puck.

Sucks that the first 4 periods have been brutal, but I think we'll find it. Not good in a 48-game season, but in the end hopefully the talent we've got can wake up and get us in the playoffs.
Not making a judgment of the season yet, especially through just four periods but even after we lose this one 5-1.

At what point does JR realize the defense sucks and we need to make some improvements? Once we get past the point of no return (i.e. don't make the playoffs)?

Both of the plays came off of defensive gaffes, but I think they were also very stoppable...
