I agree. But Holmgren blew his buyout wad already this season, so he won't get any more mulligans like that. Lecavlier also got a full NMC, so it's going to be very interesting as soon as next season with their cap situation. Personally I'm hoping it all blows up in their faces again lol.

Philly is now over the cap. Not by much, but over nonetheless. They have a full roster minus a second goalie. I assume they'll add Tim Thomas for cheap. Their D is all signed but a bit of a mess, particularly considering how much ($33M+) they've invested in it. Hopefully a situation presents itself where we can steal one of their forwards, i.e. Couturier.

I know they'll clear up another $4-5M moving Pronger to LTIR. Could be enough for them to sign another goaltender, although I think they may try to trade Coburn or Mez as well. Coburn is by far the better d-man, but Mez has like no trade value because of his injury history.

July 5, but players/agents can speak with other teams as of 12:01 a.m. Eastern tonight. They just can't sign until Friday.

So why have guys like VL already signed with teams? Is it due to a buyout situation?

Buyouts -> automatic UFA status, free to negotiate/sign with any team.

Can you imagine if they actually landed Weber?

Should have. Nashville fronted something like $64m total dollars to keep him.

I know it was a crazy amount. If Flyers did land him they would be dealing with two humongerous contracts. They really like to **** themselves..i guess Nashville helped them out by **** blocking over the Weber contract.

More Flyers news: according to LeBrun, the Flyers are close to resigning Giroux for 8 years with an AAV over $8M. Man are Snider's pockets bottomless...

Looks like Seguin/Loui Eriksson swap could happen.

Looks like it's all done.

to Dallas:
- Tyler Seguin $5.75m AAV
- Rich Peverly $3.25m AAV
- Ryan Button, D prospect (2009 3rd round)

to Boston:
- Loui Eriksson $4.25m AAV
- Reilly Smith, F prospect played most of last season in NHL (2009 3rd round)
- Joe Morrow, D prospect (2011 1st round Pit)
- Matt Fraser, F prospect (age 23, undrafted free agent signing)

At first glance I think that trade is a win/win for both teams. Peverley capably addresses a need for Dallas and Seguin can certainly rebound and explode offensively, not having to play within the confines of the Bs system. Boston meanwhile gets an excellent two-way winger that should fit like a glove alongside Marchand and Bergy, even better than Seguin (PMS line becomes the EMP line) and some very good prospects.

Great trade for Dallas. Really good. Loui wasn't going to be around for the rebuild they are trying to do. Damnit, now Dallas has competent management. Big upgrade for Boston. Now can they reel Horton back in? That's the big question. Chiarelli ain't nothing to eff with.

They've had competent management all along ... now Dallas has money. The recently-fired Stars GM (Nieuwendyk) did an amazing job turning over the roster and rebuilding their farm system. I feel like "the rebuild" in Dallas is more in the past than the future. Playoffs 2015 could be a monster in Texas.

Don't love this trade for Dallas, but if Seguin grows into a legit 1C and Jamie Benn can move back to the wing, they're going to be very dangerous. Eriksson will play in Boston's top 2 lines and Boston will love him over the next 3 years. Will probably be mutually beneficial.

And it's done. Oh my goodness. Never imaged he wouldn't finish his career in Ottawa.
