Nothing like dumping one bad contract only to add two more. Seven years for David Clarkson?!

Toronto will finish last overall next season. They dropped two of their best possession forwards(despite being one of the worst possession teams, if not the worst, last season) and retained Bozak who is one of their worst possession fowards over the last five years. They add Clarkson on top of that and ******* their team is just so ******* bad. I mean TSN have Colton Orr, probably the worst player in the NHL, on the third line.

Gonna laugh and laugh hard when they trade away their first which then turns into a top 5 pick.

Considering Edmonton's needs, it might be worth it to them. Grats Gordo!

Preds gave Eric Nystrom 4 years $10m. Silly money being thrown around for grinders right now.

Toronto should have at least front loaded the Clarkson deal. They have the cash to do it. But, it looks like it's 5.25 across the board. They will have a 37-year-old, banged up David Clarkson making 5.25. Worst signing of the day imo.

Great deal: Dave Clarkson's family is set for life, and a rich team gets to pay for it. Standard O6 madness. Great for him, but they're about to play their 47th straight season without a Stanley Cup.

My favorite quote today came from someone on the NHL network. "Bryzgalov had times last season when he wasn't horrible"

Setoguchi just got traded for a 2nd.

Would have been interesting to see if Don could have pulled off trading our 2nd for Seto, and then quickly unloading Klesla for a 2nd or 3rd + a reclamation project or something. Both guys are expiring contracts and about the same on $$$.

Oh well.

Iginla to Boston.

So there Top 6 is...

Marchand - Bergeron - Eriksson
Lucic - Krejci - Iginla

$6m for Iginla. Wow. Steep. Would have guessed 3.5 or 4. Ryder gone too. :/

Yeah, Iginla is way too expensive, for what he's going to bring.

Gordon I couldn't believe got $3m, he's paid more than Korpikoski, now granted he's a center who is an excellent PK guy, but he's worth $1.5m.

Some of these contracts are outrageous, didn't we just have a drop in the salary cap and compliance buyouts and people are giving Clowe $4.85 (5yrs), Horton for $5.3 (7yrs) and Clarkson $5.25 (7yrs)

Non of them are PPG players, so we basically got Ribeiro a PPG player for only 4 years and slightly more than Clowe, Horton and Clarkson...great job by GMDM

The term "keeping our powder dry" applies here ... don't waste bullets taking low-percentage shots ... even with ownership in place, we're not competing with the Maple Laffs in July, so better to give out no contracts than give out bad ones. Ribeiro is a weird player who won't pass everyone's Eyeball Test (more on this closer to the season) but I cannot imagine the last 3 weeks going better. DM? Tipp? Domi + others? Owners? Now Ribeiro and Greiss on great deals? Wowowowowow. So happy right now. When's opening night?

Gordon made 1.3 million last year and was worth way more. If I were a big money team, I'd hand him 2.2 if I needed him. Three is still crazy, but it makes more sense if you're Edmonton looking to improve everything other than offense.
And I totally agree that the Ribeiro signing looks better and better as more deals are churning in. Some of the GMs need a reality check.

Pretty much! Not a big Ribeiro fan, but we need talent bad. And he loves Tipp, so no worries on that front. Upgraded our backup and saved money at the same time. Happy with the draft. It's an exciting month

Couldn't care less about Ribs supposed personality quirks and issues. He has a strong room and a coach that knows him to keep him wrangled. I'll look the other way on a lot so long as he moves the PP into the top 10.

Still want my Prospal. Or even Boyes.

I'd just like a PP that can consistently gain the offensive zone.

Can someone explain to me how player bonuses work?

The way I understand it, Boston signed Iginla for a cap hit of 1.8M but end up paying him a total of 6mil because of bonuses. It seems pretty greasy to me that they can just throw an extra 4.2million at him to make a competitive offer, but since it's all part of the bonuses, only his 1.8 goes against the cap so they can still afford everyone else, etc under the salary cap. Anyone care to clarify this?

Performances bonuses still count against the cap. But teams can exceed the cap by a certain amount b/c technically the bonus might not be paid out. If they do pay out whatever amount (lets say he hits 4m in incentives), then that 4M goes against next yrs cap.

If 35 or over u can sign for base salary and use performance bonuses to sweeten the deal. If achieved and team goes over the cap the team has the overage count against the next seasons numbers.

Ahh ok, thanks guys. So in the Iggy example then, let's say he reaches all his bonuses. That means the Bruins are stuck with a 4.2 million dollar cap handicap next year essentially? Even though Iggy might move on/was only on one year deal.

Unless you're really going for it this year, seems kind of dumb to make a deal signing like that.
