Vancouver-Detroit

Keith Ballard for Todd Bertuzzi.

Wings get a 4-5 defenseman with potential to rebound if given the opportunity. Canucks add a gritty veteran forward who can help with our shootout woes.

Maybe add a mid pick on either side if needed. Yeah, I doubt Bertuzzi comes back to Vancouver, but still, I for one wouldn't mind him back at all.

Cleary is the expendable forward in Detroit. I think the Wings might listen to that. Even though his production has gone down, Bert still serves a role for the Wings. Without Homer the need to have their net presence on both PP units.

Oh give me a break. Wings take this and run.

Ballard is worth so much more than Bert.

Ballard has no trade value. Even though this trade could make sense, I don't really see Bert helping us out much, rather have Ballard on the third pairing

This again?

Bertuzzi's not coming back to Vancouver. Sometimes, there really is too much baggage to go home again. This is one of those times.

Bert has a full NTC, I really don't think he accepts a deal to anywhere, maybe Toronto but he wants to stay in this immediate area, has made that clear several times.

I don't hate the deal just find it highly unlikely. Helm will be crushed if this goes through.

I think Bertuzzi could also help mentor Kassian to develop somewhat similarly to him in his prime.

Plus, as I mentioned, we suck at shootouts.

Ballard would flourish on a team like Detroit and eat up 23:05-23:15 per game easily, and probably in a full season get between 36-38 points. Since all parties would know this I think the Canucks could ask for more than just Bertuzzi in return. Maybe a 1st or 2nd round pick as well...

It would have to be more than just Bertuzzi alone in my opinion. But, not much more. I would love to see Bert back in a Canucks uni.

But then who slots into Bally's spot? Barker (barf)? Vandermeer (I don't see him and Tanev as a very effective pairing)? Connauton (isn't NHL ready)?

I had the same idea in the summer. I've since decided it would be an absolute disaster and a huge distraction.

Ballard has zero value, possibly even negative value. Does Bert have THAT low of value?

I disagree about Ballard, he could bring a lot to a struggling yet optimistic Red Wing team. In a shortened season he could easily bag 10-15 goals, win some fights, play solid d, and eat up a lot of the minutes Lidstrom left behind. Not saying he is as good as Lidstrom but could certainly make a solid contribution and help Detroit continue their decades of continuous playoff play.

to det: Ballard, Ebbett, Raymond, 4th round pick

to VAN: Bertuzzi, Filpulla, 3rd round pick

Well what does Cleary make? I think Detroit would cone out as a clear winner straight, so let's hear an offer.

I like the Bert idea....new management, new owner, new team, but I just don't see it happening in the real world. Values there on paper for me though.

That's nice and all but that package doesn't get you Filppula alone.

I don't think there is any scenario where Bert goes back to VAN and it becomes anything but a distraction...

Pfft. Everyone will be too distracted by the goalie controversy to notice the distraction of having Bertuzzi back.
