Oh its definately the players aswell. We don't have a single creative pp player.

Kopitar is used wrong (can anyone recall a goal ever coming from a pass from Kopitar where he likes to stand?) The pp should be ran from the other side of the ice, leaving Kopitar with all that ice to himself so when he gets the puck he has room to skate/shoot/whatever

Doughty is just a meh point man, nothing special

Richards and Carter just sort of float around out there

Voynov is by far our best left point man, but is never used because he is just too good for our pp or something, and Williams our best forward with Brown just behind because those 3 guys actually do this crazy thing known as movement

Although id like to see us adopt the Tampa bay mentality of feed the puck to Stamkos.

Stick Nolan or Clifford infront of the net, run the pp through Doughty at the point, and have him just feed Kopitar or Voynov (whichever 1 isn't covered in the moment) for 1 timers over and over. Extra forward just floats around the net for rebounds

Its not great and won't produce crazy results, but it will slot you in around mid point in end of year %

Go back to last week threads, most of the people who are now in crybaby-whine about everybody mode were talking about our insanse depth at C, our chances to repeat, bla bla bla.

Have you ever play hockey? Playing out of shape really affects you, much more than in other sports. It's 2 freaking games into the season, if we'll loose the next 3-4 games I'll start to be worried too. But it won't happen...and just wait for the first win, and today's whiners will all be celebrating again like happy kids...

Relax folks

Penner's lack of speed does make him a bad fit on a fore checking team like Kings. If he pins them down he is great but if he has to chase like this game he will get penalties against.

He is a fricking tanker trying to turn around when opposition just blows by him. This was maybe a result of bad positioning or was the speed of Av's just too much?

I'm not sure.

Nice to see Muzzin is playing up to expectations. Like I said before, he is young and will have his ups and downs. Tonight was an up. The next game could be a down but the quality of skill level is there and I still believe he is an NHL caliber dman who will stick.

A Mart is playing back too much on his heels and giving up too much room in front of him and it is hurting both his reaction times as well as his confidence. He will be fine but he has to work past it. Face injuries can do that to a person.

Both DD's are looking like they came to play.

Nolan, what a kid. He really is a chip of the old block.

I am happy to see Cliffy not only getting the ice time but making the most of it. He looked good off and on last year and you just knew that he would take every advantage to try and get off to a good start this time around.

Oh well, we will turn it around. Our best play is in front of us and once everyone gets their games back we will start our push.

Not worried.

Annoying, but they're getting there. I figure every team in the league gets a couple weeks to work things out. Some teams don't need it, others do. The Kings seem to be one of the teams that have to play themselves into the season. That's ok. 48 games is less than 82, but it's still 48 games. For good teams, a couple here and there aren't going to kill them. If the Kings are a good team, an uneven 0-2 start isn't going to sink the season.

This will all turn around when Mitchell comes back. Remember the last time he was out for a semi-extended period? Same thing happened. He came back, and the team turned it around. The team can withstand the loss of Greener WAY more than Willie.

I really think the guy is the glue that holds this group together, crazy as it sounds since he is just one guy
.

It's not crazy, I think most fans recognize exactly what he does and how vital he is to this teams success. I thought last year from Oct to June he was the best and most consistant player on the ice not named Quick. I know as a fan I feel a lot better and more confident when he is on the ice. I'm sure the players do too.
Hopefully he'll be back soon, maybe by the weekend.

Hey Sens fan coming in peace. What has Doughty looked like? Don't get a chance to watch many Kings games, and I have him on my fantasy team. Is he going to return to being a top level defenceman this year or continue a run of mediocrity?

I think he's looked great so far. Looks like he has his legs going, unlike many other players on the Kings. Obviously if the Kings have another low scoring season, it's gonna be tough for Doughty to get "elite" numbers.

We have seen 3 good periods from the Kings and 2 horrible ones and 1 half and half.
Kings seem to do well on the Grammy road trip. If we dont see a turn a round by then bring out the doom and gloom. I am not ready to give up watching games and start watching cooking shows with the wife just yet

Thought Muzzin and Drewiski played fine, that was good to see.
Clifford and Nolan can be beasts. Both are skating well and playing their game. I just hope Cliff doesn't fight often, keep that head clear. But it's great to see them play so strong. Now if the rest of the forwards can come around we'll be fine.

Man re signing Penner is looking worse by the minute. Parenteau on the wing with Richards and Carter could've been nice.

It's not like Richards or Carter is tearing it up either. I thought Penner was the best forward on Sat.

Didn't read the whole thread, but I gotta give it up for Drewiske! He played awesome on the 5-3 and had some solid shifts beside that.

That may have been Penner's worse game as a King..and that is saying alot. I have been a long time penner fan but he ws brutal. Before the 3rd goal, he coughed it up ath our blue line, than stared at the play going the other way before desiding to come back, than ran into Richards, making Richards man be abel to pass the puck cleanly, then got to his man late, whch resulted in the goal.
I was complaining about him before that goal too.

Yep. I attribute it to two things....

1) Terry Murray is non longer there to emphasize the D.

2) Essentially, the only true veteran D that we had last night was Scuderi. Voynov, Muzzin, Drewiske, Martinez, and even Doughty are still in the learning phase of their respective careers. That said, only Scuderi and Doughty ended up with a minus last night. Go figure...

I look for Dustin Brown and Mike Richards to step up the hitting in the next game to get things going on those two lines. The Kings are at their best when they are bottling the other team up in their own zone. They need to get back to the simple cycle game and make sure they get to the front of the net.

And a St. Louis doing the feeding would be nice

Also thought it was bad coaching last night not to call a timeout halfway through the 5 on 3 kill. We leave Scuderi and DD44 on for the full 2 minutes, which makes sense, yet don't give them a rest when we get a whistle about 1 minute in? What are we saving that timeout for?

Like I said after game one, it is still too early to judge because these guys aren't in game shape and won't be for a while. It still looks like they're treating this like it's pre-season hockey. I'm guessing here but maybe they're afraid of getting hurt? I recall in the previous abbreviated season that teams had numerous injuries because players didn't have enough time to prep for the season.

He had to be over 60% on his draws, was very good on the PK and, aside from the fourth line, created more offensive chances than anyone named Kopitar, Richards, Williams, Carter and Brown. Their bottom 6 forwards were their best players tonight and that's why they lost. Some of you guys have to give your head a shake, step into reality and recognize what each guy's role is on the team. I would bet the farm that if you asked Sutter who let him down tonight it wouldn't be Stoll or his line...
If Stoll just played and was paid as a bottom 6 faceoff specialist no one would be complaining. The problem is, he is grossly overused and has been almost his entire time here. He only had 30 seconds less PP time than Kopitar last game, the same amount of PP time as Richards in the first game. Jarret Stoll has zero offensive game, it disappeared basically overnight during the second half of the 2010-2011 season. The numbers don't lie. On January 15th of 2011, Stoll had 2 goals against Edmonton, it gave him 14 goals in 45 games, or just over half the season. Since then Stoll has played 142 games for the Kings (playoffs + regular season) and has scored a grand total of 14 goals. There is no way he should be sniffing any kind of PP time, much less as the trigger man from the point. Now the Kings have committed 9+ million over the next 3 years to a faceoff specialist who is going to struggle to score double digit goals and provides nothing more defensively than an average bottom 6 player. I understand the trying to keep the band together mentality this past summer, but Stoll should have been given the same offer as Penner, if someone else was going to grossly overpay Stoll then let them.

I think it's more of a what have you ever done when it comes to him. One series clinching goal should not have warranted anything close to the contract they gave him.

Kopitar is very creative, the Kings PP problems continue to be the misusing of the players. Like you said, Slava should be on the left point, he is the best left point guy we have. He has a great shot and he knows when to sneak in better than anyone we have ever used back there. No idea why he doesn't play there with our best players.

The Kings have used the TB style PP in the past, the problem is instead of someone like Carter as the trigger man they run it through Stoll. I think our PP would be worlds better if we had someone like Brown in front of the net and finding room for Carter one-timers. Even putting as you suggested, Nolan or Clifford out there could work.

And I wouldn't call Doughty a meh point man. The problem is who he has played with. Him and Jack didn't work because both needed the puck alot. And other than that he has spent most of his career playing the PP with Stoll. Hard to be effective when your other point man has his skates in cement firing one-timers high and wide. I really wish they would let Drew and Slava develop some chemistry on that #1 unit.
