Not to be on the Flyers`side ever, but they honestly have no reason to seek a trade for Pronger as RL cash is not their hang up nor do they want Gagner. Philly should use Couturier as part of the trade package to get them a top pairing D.
Ya, but franchise wingers are worth more than 2nd line centers. See what I did there? Also, hfboard's obsession with centermen has gone too far imo.
As much talent as Yakapov has, he will have a hard time sustaining a high level of production given his size. I would classify Kessel in the same boat. Guys that size have a TOUGH time once a team has a focus on defending them. The Ovechkins, Kovalchuks and Nashes are pretty much unstoppable, regardless of defensive strategy. Chara, Weber, etc. could mug Yakopov and Kessel at will. Try that to Rick Nash.
I'd take Couturier given his size, skating and performance in his first year. He won't produce like Yakopov, but he'll be a 2A/1B type centerman.
Couturier is a building block player that stepped in and was key in the playoffs. He wont win scoring titles, but he can be Bergeron type of player that is a top 3 player on championship team. Yakupov might be better than Kessel, but not a franchise player
I don't think anyone is questioning Couturier's value, but calling him a franchise centre is going a little overboard, no? I suppose depends on your definition of franchise centre, but for me that means a centre that completely changes the franchise for potentially a decade or longer with elite level potential.
Couturier is a good 2-way centre, can play against other teams top players, while stilling bringing solid offensive upside. Those types of players are VERY valuable, especially in the playoffs.
IMO, Philly has a franchise centre, and it isn't Couturier nor will it ever be while Giroux is there.
