Why would the Flyers do this though? Pronger is on LTIR and not a cap hit, and they can buy him out if insurance doesn't cover his injuries. Makes no sense for Philly at all.

Please. Philly gets a good scoring winger to replace JVR & Jagr and young 40 point center. Philly wins in short term (their window is now), Oilers probably in long term.

Not to be on the Flyers`side ever, but they honestly have no reason to seek a trade for Pronger as RL cash is not their hang up nor do they want Gagner. Philly should use Couturier as part of the trade package to get them a top pairing D.

Ideally, IMO we would find a guy with less offensive potential than Gagner but bigger body and better defense.

Not saying any of them are available, but a Berglund/Bolland/ROR would be a good fit.

Don't think this makes sense for either team.

Desharnais is coming off a 60 point season and plays with Cole and MaxPac from what I have seen this year, he seems to be important.

The Oilers need to get BIGGER. Desharnais is smaller even than Gagner.

I would imagine the Oilers will trade from a position of strength, i.e. picks/prospects/wingers to get help on D and at C.

Horrible value. Try starting with Yakupov. Even them Philly perhaps declines. PHI needs dmen

Philly would take Yakupov for Couturier in a heartbeat, are you kidding me?

Couturier would be a perfect fit, but too costly. Philly seems to value him a lot more than I could ever see the Oilers trading away.

2-way franchise centers are more valuable than scoring wingers.

Ya, but franchise wingers are worth more than 2nd line centers. See what I did there? Also, hfboard's obsession with centermen has gone too far imo.

I'm not even an Oiler fan and I'll gladly answer that:

1st overall pick in the 2012 draft with the potential to be a 1st line winger.

Sean Couturier, franchise player?

As much talent as Yakapov has, he will have a hard time sustaining a high level of production given his size. I would classify Kessel in the same boat. Guys that size have a TOUGH time once a team has a focus on defending them. The Ovechkins, Kovalchuks and Nashes are pretty much unstoppable, regardless of defensive strategy. Chara, Weber, etc. could mug Yakopov and Kessel at will. Try that to Rick Nash.

I'd take Couturier given his size, skating and performance in his first year. He won't produce like Yakopov, but he'll be a 2A/1B type centerman.

A first overall pick with scoring ability

But both value their respective prospects based on projections. I figure its like roughly comparing Kopitar and Stamkos. Flame away but thats the max upside for both. Who would you rather have

Couturier is a building block player that stepped in and was key in the playoffs. He wont win scoring titles, but he can be Bergeron type of player that is a top 3 player on championship team. Yakupov might be better than Kessel, but not a franchise player

At it's been written earlier in this thread. Make an offer for Eller. He's currently in Therrien's dog house, playing on the left wing, which doesn't seem to please him very much.

I don't think anyone is questioning Couturier's value, but calling him a franchise centre is going a little overboard, no? I suppose depends on your definition of franchise centre, but for me that means a centre that completely changes the franchise for potentially a decade or longer with elite level potential.

Couturier is a good 2-way centre, can play against other teams top players, while stilling bringing solid offensive upside. Those types of players are VERY valuable, especially in the playoffs.

IMO, Philly has a franchise centre, and it isn't Couturier nor will it ever be while Giroux is there.
