Oh dear...terrible for Detroit, but I don't think Toronto should make a deal like this either. Datsyuk is likely about 2-3 years from retirement.

You must be drunk already. I'm not sure that would get you a good 1st liner, never mind a player of Datsyuk's caliber.

Detroit might give you Franzen for that package.

HUGE no from the Toronto side. Grabovski is one of the best centers in the league, Gunnarsson a premier shut down defender, and a 2nd in the deepest draft since '03 is a big no no.

Nope. All this does is make the leafs good enough to finish 9th for the next couple seasons.
We need a proper tank imo

Do you know who Pavel Datsyuk is? I mean.. you'd have to give up at least Bozak. Overpayment? Maybe.. but you gotta give to get man.

Definately not considering he plays on Toronto's second line.. This trade just dosn't make sense for either side. Although Datsyuk's value is higher than what's being offered, he is 3 or 4 years away from retirement and Toronto is building for the future.

This is why Leafs fans can't have nice things. If Toronto wants Datsyuk, the Red Wings will start by asking for Kessel+

Without knowing both teams needs, I'd assume Detroit would want something
Datsyuk
1st Round Pick

for

Gardiner
Kessel

Before going crazy leaf fans, if you actually want Datsyuk you'll have to overpay, he is one the best players in the league, but frankly why would the leafs trade two young players for a fairly old number 1 center.

forget the fact that he's 36 but he has 1 season left on his deal after this one and then he can go back to russia which seems like realistic option that wings fans expect

Of course I'm assuming he stays for at least another year. But that's what I'd expect Detroit to want if they trade him to Toronto.

That's quite stretching it there...I bet I can name 15 better centers (including Datsyuk). Grabo has the problem of playing too cute and gets him knocked off the puck quite easily. Best centers don't get knocked off too easily. Plus Grabo doesn't have the offense of the best centers in the league, he's actually quite middling in that regard. 2nd round picks aren't guarantees.

Datsyuk is 34 and he's said he'd like to finish his career in Russia, not that he's leaving after this contract.

He will play his entire career as a Wing, It would take a massive overpayment involving a franchise player for the Wings to even consider moving him

Neither team should do this. It is worth less to Detroit then keeping a great lifetime Redwing to retire as one, as it is overpayment for Leafs for 1-2 years of him when we are not a contender.

Partial NTC, what are the odds he waives to go to a team far from contention at his age and that's even if they traded what it would take to get him which would gut the system, and make the team even worse than it already is.

Datsyuk is as elite as it getsbut what does it do to TO building process
Grabo is a very decent 2C, Gunner is a very decent D, and a 2nd in a rich prospect year which could be equivalent to a late first

What do the leafs get, a soon to be 35 year old center with 1 year on his contract left who may just retire in a year, or retire in KHL.

Leafs with or without him wouldnt contend for the Cup, not now nor next year. So why jeopardize the future???

A team missing that 1 element to make a cup run could go ahead and go all in for 1 or 2 years of Datsyuk. That team aint the Leafs. and its not a bad thing for the Leafs to refuse the deal. Thats how I see it anyways

Value-wise, doesn't make sense for the Wings.
Situation/long-term-plan wise, doesn't make sense for the Leafs.
Respectable No from both sides.

Red Wings are Rebuilding so

Steckel,Komisarek,Colborne,6th for Datsyuk

Wings need defensive depth, 4th line center, good prospect, 6th round pick which could probably end up being another Datsyuk because of Detroit's scouts so imo Detroit wins in the long run while clearing cap space.
