One of these days I'd like to know exactly what a "high ankle sprain" is. I've definitely sprained my ankle a bunch, but this "high ankle sprain" appears to be a debilitating injury. It cost Joe Sakic most of his season a few years back.
On second thought I'd rather not have firsthand knowledge.
Rather than a tear of the ligaments connecting the bones of the leg to the foot a high ankle sprain is a tear of the ligaments which stabilize and connect the two bones of the lower leg (tibia and fibula) above the level of the ankle. As you can imagine, a tear there is a pretty big problem and would take a long time rehab. Recovery can be 6-8 weeks if its not complicated or longer (12+ weeks) if the two bones separate significantly or there's an associated fracture.

#Avalanche morning skate update to come. It includes: EJohnson and RWilson both skated, returns looming
Sacco said EJ would be on the next road trip (after the game against Flames), Wilson won't.
Sacco said Wilson's injury makes it hard to put an estimated return on him.
Getting Wilson and EJ back will be key for us. With the way Barrie and Hejda have been playing we could finally have a decent Top 4.
If Sacco was smart, when EJ and Wilson returned he'd play EJ - Wilson and Barrie - Hejda around 22-24 Mins a night, and then the bottom pairing can rotate between Hunwick/Obyrne/Obrien/Zanon and play 12-16 mins a night.
I could see a potential trade coming soon again. 8 Dmen on the roster before long and Elliott in LEM. We should try to ship Obyrne out for a 3rd/4th round pick if we can.

The Hunwickian One will still lead in ice time.

To stay on topic, if anyone actually attends the Avs practice this morning, an update would be GREAT. Would love to hear how ROR looked and if EJ and/or Wilson actually skated/practiced.
