Interesting...I know JJ's track record isn't the best with rumors and such, but he claims that the Hawks are aggressively shopping Nick Leddy. This comes out on the day when Leddy seems to have joined Stalberg in Q's doghouse.

The Chicago Blackhawks need to "beef up" the left wing prospect pool:

William Carrier
Left Wing
Cape Breton, QMJHL

http://www.nhl.com/ice/draftprospect...Rank&year=2013

Adam Erne
Left Wing
Quebec, QMJHL

I'd rather ship out (1) Dave Bolland, (2) Michael Frolik (contract too expensive for a fourth line winger)

I probably should have posted this on the Bickell/Leddy thread. But he probably would be traded for a pick in the unlikely event he gets moved. Speaking of which. I've gotten so caught up in the Cup run that I missed that the draft is only 10 days days away. Wow.

WHY!

Because elite skating, puck moving D-men who are better at 22 then most guys grow on trees?

Q just likes his vets in those situations. Why should we trade Leddy? This makes no sense. Sit him cause we are shopping him? That makes no sense

Shopping Leddy can't be true. He's a free agent after this season.

Yeah, this is the ultimate hockey summer, go from the finals to the offseason within a few days.

I'm actually pretty interested in this draft. 3-5 guys with the talent/skill to be taken #1 overall.

There could be smoke to the Leddy rumor. Perhaps Leddy's priced himself out of the Hawks range? If Colorado or Florida draft MacKinnon, I wonder if Leddy goes in a package for a 2nd line C?

If you want to keep Bickell, the Hawks are going to have to cut cap somewhere. One way to do it is by dealing Bolland and Frolik. Do that, and you further deplete your depth down the middle though.

Another way could be to deal Leddy. If it is true that he's asking for a lot, perhaps you do sell high. If you can use Leddy to a) create cap space to help resigning Bickell and b) get back a young quality asset in return (maybe a 2C), is it really a bad move? There would be a number of teams that would love to get a 22 year old Dman with the potential of Leddy, I'm sure you could get a decent asset for him on a ELC.

The whole wildcard here is Clendening. I didn't see a lot of Rockford this year, but by his numbers he had a decent year. From second-hand reports it sounds like his D-zone play is still lacking. But IF Clendening is close, and the Hawks think his offensive ability could help the PP, maybe you save $2M in cap space (assuming Leddy wants $3M to Clendening's $925K ELC for the next 2 years) and use that $2M elsewhere.

I'd like to see Leddy continue to develop on the Hawks, guys who skate like that are hard to find. But I don't think it's impossible that he gets dealt.

Absolutely. Shorter and very interesting offseason coming up. Good year to be a hockey fan and a Blackhawks fan.

I'm surprised by the whining on the florida board that the avs might draft mackinnon and they'll be "stuck" with jones. they should be happy to get a player like that! jesus.

Florida just blew the 3rd pick in the draft on Gudbranson 3 years ago. You generally don't use two top 3 picks on defensmen in such a short timespan. Especially with the higher bust-rate that defensemen have.

Well, they seem to be a mainstay at the top of the draft board, so they can just get a forward next year...or trade their pick this year and move to 3 or 4. If we were sitting at #2, I'd be happy to take Jones.

I'd go Barkov. I think we need a 2nd line C.

Dave Bolland has been on the decline since the Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup back in the second quarter of 2010. Dave Bolland was an abject failure as the Chicago Blackhawks second line centerman this past season. The Chicago Blackhawks can't afford to pay a third line centerman $3.375 million with the salary cap decreasing by approximately $6 million. In addition, the Chicago Blackhawks have two young centerman in Brandon Pirri (who led the AHL in scoring) and Drew Leblanc (the most recent Hobey Baker winner) that should be able to compete for the second line center position for the 2013-14 NHL Season. As for Frolik, it's hard to justify paying a fourth line winger $2.333 million next season with Kruger and Leddy as pending restricted free agents.

That's insane if true. Bowman should be shopping Oduya instead (get a 2nd or a 3rd rounder) and give most of his money to Leddy in his new deal.

oh, i agree with you. tbh, if nichushkin was guaranteed to come, i'd be fine with him as well.

my point was more that if we had the 2nd pick and found out mackinnon was going 1st so we were taking jones, i wouldn't start up with ******** whining like the sky had fallen or something. i'd just be happy.

The Blackhawks have plenty of players that could be traded on draft day:

Bolland
Brookbank
Carcillo
Frolik
Montador (ya I know it's a stretch)

Oduya has a limited NTC, he's probably not going anywhere.

The Hawks aren't moving Leddy, least not for a pick that they don't need. Can anyone, anywhere, post a link to a "rumor" of Jaeckel's that came true? Or, that the team's he mentioned in the rumor, made a trade - regardless of the pieces? No, no one can. Such an article doesn't exsist. Jaeckel doesn't haven any sources.
