Prospects are so hit and miss in baseball, you always take the proven player IMO.

I mean, I like Prado and he's a good guy, but Yeeeesh Prado. The deal all hinges on him unfortunately. With the rumored package they got from Seattle, if they downgraded to git a team that Up would go to, I'm not sure I like it. Especially if Prado leaves at the end of next season.

For Atlanta, what can you say. They now have 2 young OF's that have the potential to be Perennial MVP candidates.

Simmons
Upton
Heyward
Upton
McCann
Freeman
Uggla
Francisco

Damn that's a nice lineup.

Towers, though, did not dispute the perception that the Diamondbacks were trying to add “grinders,” specifically citing Prado and one of the prospects in the deal, shortstop Nick Ahmed, as players who “fit the mold.”

“That’s the way Gibby played the game,” Towers said. “Look at our coaching staff, that’s the makeup of our coaching staff as well. That’s how we won (the NL West) in 2011. Justin was part of the 2011 club.

“Different clubs like to look for different intangibles in players. We kind of like that grinding, gritty player – hard-nosed. I’m not saying that Justin isn’t that type of guy … ”

Again, actions speak louder than words.

If Upton’s style rubbed Gibson wrong, then maybe it’s Gibson who should have adjusted, or at least found some sort of middle ground. Twenty-five players, 25 personalities. They can’t all be the same.

Apparently J Up didn't play hard enough according to a teammate. Probably a good thing he will be with his bro..if there was one person that would get on his case about playing harder, it'd probably be his brother.

You do realise BJ Upton's stint with Rays was marred with lazyness and inconsistency.

Couldn't agree more. Dbacks got absolutely ***** in this deal. The mismanagement of the Upton situation over the past year or two has been absolutely terrible. Then you have this guy Towers on local radio trying to talk his way out of it, building up these mediocre prospects and what not. Bottom line they did an awful job with this, and probably ended up getting about half what they should have for him.

Did the Nationals move to the AL?

Although Upton's inconsistency scares me, I have two schools of thought on Braves fans being upset over including Prado in the deal. Part of me has a tough time understanding why so many Braves fans are sick over losing Prado when you consider the Braves were considering trading him before and really, I don't think they could have expected a better player back than Upton.

On the other hand, perhaps it has more to do with the fact that they need a third baseman and Prado was a very good player and leader and perhaps they thought if they absolutely had to trade him they can do so in a separate deal .

It's obviously less than ideal but a Francisco/Johnson platoon at 3B should be decent enough. Just have them hit 7th or 8th, which they'll be able to with a stacked lineup from the entire outfield to catcher to the right side of the infield.

On local radio, only about 1 out of every 5 callers were unhappy. Mainly pointing at strikeouts and Prado being able to play 3rd, SS, and outfield.

The main problem is that the Braves have been negotiating a long-term deal with Prado for the last 2 offseasons and can't get a deal done. He wants $12 mil a year which is about $4 too many. Plus, Prado has no power. He'll get on base for sure, but a double is like a homerun to him.

Overall, there was a huge positive buzz in the city yesterday regarding the trade.

Definitely worried a lot more about the East now as a Phils fan but I'd hardly hand it to the Braves.

I called it the day Upton signed with the Braves.

Perfect trade partners, shocked Atlanta held onto Simmons though.

For my Braves fans comment, on this forum they were not happy when it was announced Prado was in the deal (my post was based on reactions from page 1): http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=248&f=2070&t=11210958

You may need a scout.com account to read it.

It'd look bad considering they traded their best pitching prospect for their shortstop of the future.
