Alot of Paajarvii's goals in his rookie season were garbage crease tap ins. This isnt a bad thing but should be taken into account when looking at his NHL impact.
So a 21 year old reminds you of a 19 year old rookie with a full 9 games played in the NHL and a total of 116 minutes of TOI...

That's rich.

I mean, anyone who takes a look at the goaltending we've got would know they're going to get a chance.

Just my two cents. Would absolutely love to have him.
i was vouching for him in his draft year, everytime he has played in international games he has been outstanding imo.

I don't see what the amount of NHL hockey he's played has to do with anything when it comes to making a player comparison.

Schultz apparently made up his mind on the day of free agency.

See, I can do that too.

I doubt it, but hey, Tippet's system does work wonders. I would laugh, hard, if the Leafs or Flyers (or Caps I would laugh a little) claimed him. What's the state of your goaltending when you claim Yann Danis.

He would be a nice fit for the Oilers, I wonder what would have to go the other way?

Petrell(not for value for the roster spot and he's cheap, and a Fin *Dallas likes them Fins) + a 2nd?

Remember when Moreau had his last year here? He took a dumb penalty a game?

Morrow is sort of in that phase. Except IIRC last year he had more minor penalties than Moreau did in his last year here.

Yikes, that's no good, to play Devil's advocate with Moreau, he saw the ice too much.

I wouldn't mind adding him for his leadership, but not for a 2nd.

Well..in his proposal we also get Landeskog with Seguin for those players.

But theres no way Boston would trade Seguin for any of those spare parts. Whitney is struggling as a #5 dman, and Stastny has looked good in years.

Depends on what the point of the comparison is I guess.

Paajarvi has significantly changed his game from being projected as being a fast, skilled and smart winger but not strong defensively while Zibanejad was projected as a power forward who likes physical play, heavy traffic and is quite good defensively and on faceoffs.

I just cannot see any way how these two players are similar, if not for the fact that neither one of them has locked down a regular spot on their respective teams. Furthermore I do find it very strange to compare, or rather state that one player reminds you of another when the other is a kid, 19 years old, with about 50 games (SEL+AHL+NHL) played total after being drafted (and seeing as how it was written we're talking post-draft). There is basically nothing to go what-so-ever.

would anyone give steve mason a shot in the organization? Get him for cheap possibly and try to rebuild him, maybe not being on such a depressing team might help him, or he could just be a one season wonder

If Horton is a UFA this summer do you think EDM should sign him. He would definately add some size and toughness to the top 6. Then we can trade Hemsky.
Thoughts

Didnt see that part. COL is not trading away their young captain. That would make thier team so small.

Unless he shows some value beforehand, I don't see that being a worthy gamble.

If we can get him for a 6th rounder, maybe.

Absolutely. Problem is he is going to get a damn good payday and could be too rich for us.

I'd be interested but consider though his injury troubles. Every big hit is a big risk for him.

I believe this is a guy the Oilers will go hard after if he doesn't re-sign in Boston. He's exactly the kind of player they should be looking for.

Maybe, just maybe Horton realizes that he's made a lot of money and sticking around in Boston for 3mil might be in his best interest if he values the Stanley cup.

The problem with all these proposals for acquiring any more "star players" is thus: try mapping out a sketch of your cap spending for a $65M cap across the roster, and assume that everyone on the top line makes $6M/year (2014/2015).

6 - 6 - 6
4 - 4 - 3
2 - 2 - 2
1 - 1 - 1
1, 1

Forward = $40M

5 - 5
2 - 3
1 - 2
1

D = $19M

4
1

G = $5M

Total = $64M... reasonable but conservative (5% growth) estimates put the cap in 14/15 at about $63M.

At this point, the Oilers have to focus 100% of their effort on getting value contracts... either vets taking a discount for a shot at a cup, or take advantage of young players on ELCs or on the upswing (like Hartikainen and MPS).

You can pretty much just completely cease any conjecture about bonafide $5M+ players. It's all about good quality depth signings.

That's what I think will happen. I doubt teams will offer him anything more than a 3 year deal based on his injuries(concussions), and I doubt he'd get significantly more money from any other team. Boston will probably offer him 1-2 year deals from here on out and he doesn't have to uproot his family. Win-win.
