You guys should be glad that this guy will have some money for his retirement, hahaha...

Some of these guys will be worse off than us when they are done hockey at 32 and have no marketable skills...

Really, 3 years to a guy that you got off waivers 2 weeks ago?
The contract will make it easier to pass him through waivers for the next year. That said, there's a simple logic to that statement that applies to the Islanders in the meantime.

He won't clear, Isles will put a claim in on him.

Proposal: Whitney + Lander for Lehner

With Spezza on IR they'll have plenty of cap room to fit in Whitney. Lander gives them depth at C.

We get addition by subtraction

Proposal 2 would be to give up a prospect+ for D.Murray

Fraser isn't Toronto's version of Potter, he's Toronto's version Carson (the guy we got last year)

Kostka(sp) is Toronto's Corey Potter.

I think the Oilers should go get Jeff Schultz.

1) He's 26, 6 feet 6 inches, 230 lbs.

2) I think paired up with Fistric he would make a good secondary shutdown pairing and another guy who can play hard PK minutes.

3) When the team is healthy it keeps Potter and/or Whitney out of the lineup.

4) His last name is Schultz and he is a former first rounder. We need to add to the Oilers growing collection of 1st round pick and defenseman named Schultz.

Jeff Schultz is a jobber. I'd consider him for the 7th D-man spot, but apart from that.....meh.

How would it work with two J. Schultz's on the team? Would they put the full first name on the back?

Maybe they could assign them different numbers or something so fans could tell them apart? And the numbers should be really big and displayed across the players back because that would help a lot.

Whitney had a good game last night, Potter was terrible, I hope they keep Fistric and Whitney together for the next few games.

You would have Fistric with Schultz and neither of them can move the puck. It would be good for the penalty kill though.

Chad Johnson has been amazing for the Yotes and is a UFA, I doubt the Yotes are rushing to give him a 3 year deal.

I like what was said on the main thread, even if he continued to play well what would it cost the Isles in two months from now? 900k?
The difference is that they're not asking or expecting to much out of Brian Strait and he has been playing a good game.

If Jason Arnott could get his **** together and get in shape would you be in favor of the Oilers giving him a chance? There doesn't seem to be a line-up for his services but maybe he's being picky about his destination.

I think he failed his physical not because of his conditioning but because he has bum knees.

Hm. It's interesting that he's still trying to pursue an NHL job then. Might be time to call 'er a career.

I think he's "ready" but carries a level of risk, and the Rangers weren't comfortable with that level of risk

Honestly would love our lineup if we ran into next season like this:

Hall-RNH-Eberle
Yakupov-Gagner-Hemsky
Smyth-Horcoff-Clarkson
Hartikainen-Belanger-Paajarvi

J.Schultz-N.Schultz
Smid-Petry
Fistric-Klefbom
Redden

Dubnyk
Bishop

and then 2014-15

Hall-RNH-Eberle
Yakupov-Gagner-Callahan
Hartikainen-Bolland-Clarkson
Glass-Lander-Thorburn

J.Schultz-Phaneuf
Smid-Petry
Klefbom-Teubert

Dubnyk
Bishop

Would this be possible under the cap? Any changes requested?
Paajarvi + first would be a potential package for a goalie if you aren't happy with the goalies here.

Bob Stauffer said on the pre-game show tonight that he believes Lander will be the Oilers 3rd line center next year....I wonder if he has any info on either Horcoff of Belanger on the outs?

Also, any news on Peckham? He is activated from the IR isn't he? I haven't heard Bob mention what the plans are for Peckham.

Hopefully a Horcoff buyout and free up some cash to spend on the backend or on some size.
