I would not be concerned with the long-term contract of Lupul. The Leafs have so much money they can deal with it, plus there is LTIR (Long term injury reserve).

Sucks for the guy since he was just getting his career on track. Great person and an awesome player.

Heal quick Joffrey!

Matt Frattin will likely be called up to replace injured Lupul. Frattin deserves to be in NHL.

hope he's right

I think it will be Connolly getting the call. Had it been a younger player getting injured it would be Frattin but i think Carlyle will look to replace the veteran presence. Personally i'd rather have Frattin in the lineup but im almost positive it will be Connolly.

I'd guess Frattin. No reason to bring up the man of glass Connolly. Where would you even play him? Our centers are fine and we're not going to get Kadri used to being back in the middle by moving him to the wing.

Bring up Frattin and move guys around to make it work.

Dave Nonis was unsure of a timeline for Lupul's injury, but it is clearly significant.

Please not Connolly...

The big question is how we will fare without Lupul in the lineup. I think Kessel will be fine in his absence, but Lupul was a big producer for us last season... easily one of our most consistent forwards, and even something of a physical presence. Irreplaceable.

Frattin deserves to be in the NHL, only reason he wasn't was because he is 3 NHL games away from able to be picked up from waivers.

It will not be Tim.....he is not a player that fits into our line up as it currently stands. Frattin or Colborne.

Big Body Joe may be a good choice as he could slot in with Kadri and Leo. Either would be better than Tim Connelly IMHO

Well.... Kessel went cold and the leafs went into a nosedive last time Lup's was injured, lets just hope the latter doesnt happen. I've said Kessel works best when he has another sniper on his line, I really think Kulemin or JVR should get Lup's spot while he's out.

if its a fracture its not a best case 3-4 weeks. its a 3-4 weeks in cast, then another 3-4 weeks regaining strength. so dont expect him back for at least 6 and that is pushing it.

This would still be a concern depending on the timetable of Lupul's injury.

However, Frattin does deserve to be here and showed some promise at times last year.

Jeez, the only time Phaneuf hits the net with a shot Lupul is standing there. Can't blame Loops he was just playing the percentages.

The Leafs likely cannot send Frattin down after this.

From a guy thats had a few broken bones, it's 6 weeks minimum to be back to playing.

Connolly is still a player in the organization. Do you honestly expect Carlyle to say: "Nope, don't want the piece of **** in my lineup - he can go to hell and hope to fry"? I don't like Connolly, either, but Carlyle is not about to say something like that and jeopardize the performance of someone to fill a hole he needs plugged up.

Why would Tim not be the type of player you want around the younger guys? You must know him better than his new coach does. Because Eakins has actually been saying how great Timmy is with the young guys on the Marlies.

If it is Frattin and when Lupul comes back it would be Steckel that gets released.....no Brainer.

What about a free agent who is out there that can help?

either that or risk sending mark fraser down, even though he has to clear waivers. We have 8 defensemen.

Steckel hasn't played a game, he's been a healthy scratch as far as I know.

My concern is that when/if Lupul comes back, hopefully we can keep Frattin in the lineup as him sitting every game wouldn't be very good for his development (as we wouldn't be able to send him down at that point without clearing waivers)

Anyways, this isn't something we have to worry about quite yet, I'm confident the right decisions will be made. I'd be very happy to see Frattin getting decent minutes with the big boys.

Mac Should be the obvious choice - when is the trade deadline?
