If the Leafs Win the Cup, Does Burke Get the Credit?

I know I know, that's like starting a question off with "If pigs could fly"

but let's say that the Leafs perform a small miracle and go on to win the cup, does Brian Burke get most of the credit for the win? That's assuming they don't do a major trade that ends up to be a great acquisition.

Does Burke put the cup win on his resume?

I don't think we have to worry about that.

Won't happen, but if it does with this current team then yes obviously. He's built the team as it is today.

Not unless he convinces the league to let the Maple Leafs play 23 players and any other team 0, and even still it would be a tough road to the cup.

if they somehow won this year (lol), yes, burke would have to get most of the credit. but say that nonis trades for luongo at the deadline, he'd start to steal some credit himself. difficult to predict what might happen

If we make the playoffs, does he get credit for it? Far better question. Ridiculous thread is ridiculous.

Burke will have died of old age (and have been dead for quite some time) by the time that happens.

If the team looks anything remotely like this current team, then sure, I guess.

A team that looks remotely like this team won't win the cup though. If some of the building pieces Burke got stayed, I guess you could give him a little too. He did put us in a better position than we were in.

If the Leafs won the cup I think there would be a reasonable assumption that some sort of contract with the Devil was involved, so I'd have to send a lion's share of the credit his way.

Well then yes, absolutely. Not much has changed really (other than getting rid of a couple of players). Don't think he can really put it on his resume though (not exactly at least, he'd have to word it correctly).

Not going to happen though.

Something along the lines of, "If you let us win the Cup, we'll do everything we can to ensure that hell doesn't actually freeze over", maybe?

There will be people giving him credit if they win 10 years from now. That's just the way burke lovers are.

You won't have to worry about that happening most likely.

What kind of thread is this? It's a clear flame bait.

Edmonton almost won in 2006 in a Cinderella story..anything is possible if you make playoffs.

Yeah Burke would get most of the credit, only players on the roster he didn't acquire are - Kulemin, Gunnarsson, Grabo, Reimer, and Komarov. Carlyle would deserve quite a bit also.

Can't see it happening though

Yes, just like Tallon did in Chicago (he even got a ring).

But like Tallon, Burke's name would be left off the cup.

The question should be, if the leafs make the play offs...that is a far more realistic assumption and if they do, then Burke should get a most of the credit....

They looked good tonight, I think they could sneak into the playoffs, they're better than people give them credit for. They dominated the Penguins in every facet of the game.
