decisions/moves that would make a positive impact

we're only 5 games in, but what we've seen so far isn't cutting it. i for one would like to put the "no preseason and only 6 days to get ready" excuse to bed. what can ruff do to light a fire under these guys? he's not going to be canned, so he might as well do something bold.

-sit myers for a game. this worked wonders for him last time, although the circumstances were different. i recall this serving as a wake-up call for myers, as he scored a goal in his first game back. let weber or brennan get a game under their belt. would it help or hurt?

-keep grigorenko with the team and use him in a top 9 role. could be a way for ruff to express to his vet forwards that the youth movement will continue to put pressure on them. re-enforce the fact that "nobody is untradeable", and keep them on their toes up to the deadline.

-demote stafford to the 4th line or sit him. just my opinion, but i don't believe stafford has really done anything to keep his spot in the top 6. gerbe takes his spot until drew's had some time to think it over.

just some suggestions. if ruff keeps doing the same old thing, we can expect the results we have become accustomed to.

Acquire Stephen Weiss, depending on the price. What would it take to get him? I don't have a clue. But clearly, we need a veteran center who can win a damn face-off

i think a lot of people on this board have said that we don't need another derek roy, and they're definitely right. but even roy could win faceoffs sometimes...

i'd be willing to dangle sekera and adam for weiss. however, we haven't reached the point of something drastic needing to be done. sitting or demoting someone could help to re-enforce expectations.

Isn't this going to morph into a thread about roster moves and such? Because we have a thread for that

See if the Kings would be interested in swapping Stoll for Leopold. That would give the team an experienced 3rd line center who can win some face-offs and shut down opponents' top center.

Get Brennan in the line-up.

Instruct Scott to destroy the next opposing player who even touches Vanek.

i'm trying not to make this about roster moves. just simple ways to get more out of our players. something's not right.

Grigs to second line and time to sit Sulzer and or Sekera and get Weber and or TJ in.
Weber will shine with his boy Ott on the team.

Sit Stafford for a week. Play anyone we can find instead.

His contributions to this team are next to nothing anyway.

recognize where this franchise is in the rebuilding process... and approach the game with that in mind

This. Please.

They aren't going anywhere as built. Take the view of this being the beginning of a transition phase to heart rather than yet another role of duct tape applied to fix a flawed foundation.

This is probably my one, and only, concern when it comes to Regier. I'm not sure that he knows how to do, what needs to be done... after over a decade of solely being focused on the year to year "make the playoffs and make a profit" focus... can he really put a long term plan together?

Exhaustive list of Sabres skaters who had higher 2011-12 GVT than Stafford (excluding shootout GVT for purposes of where a player should play in the lineup):

Jason Pominville

END LIST

______________________

The guy has played six games. He's third on the team in shots, but hasn't scored yet--shooting% fluctuates in small samples, but should even out over time. But, yeah, by all means we should trade him. Run him out of town right behind Roy, and rationalize it with some intangible "addition by subtraction" mysticism. Then we can have exactly one RW in the entire lineup that can score, and when the team sucks even more, we'll just find other players to blame.

It's the Buffalo way.

Trade Vanek while his value is high (says the guy with a Vanek jersey FWIW)

Trade Miller IF his value is high to one of the 22 teams he can be traded to

See if Regehr would waive his NMC

Target a top 6 center and grit and character guys....

Regehr already waived his no trade clause to come here... so I don't think he has one anymore

This team is in rebuild, but is afraid to admit it

target 22-26 yr old players with defined characteristics/abilities that mesh with what we already have in place

It's up to the acquiring team regarding if it remains in place. That decision would've been made at the time they acquired Regehr. I asked Vogl, Hoppe, and Hamilton on Twitter about this, and Hamilton was the only one to respond. He indicated that "they must have" or Regehr wouldn't have waived to come to Buffalo. It sounded like he never asked, and was merely hypothesizing.

The NHLPA should have fought to have all clauses carry over....

This. I like you have been saying for the last 3-4 years that playing youngsters and getting a high draft pick wouldn't be horrible instead of being mediocre and finishing 7-10 every year.
