Why would anyone want to mess with our top-6? If it ain't broke...
Couture-Havlat ain't broke, but forward lines consist of 3 forwards. Our current second line only has 2 forwards + a guy who can't skate and looks like he doesn't belong. The 2nd line is doing well in spite of Slowe Clowe, not because of it.
If Gomez won't be immediately slotted into the 2nd line to see how he fits there, at the very least when the Sharks get big leads they need do some experimentation with finding a good fit to join the Couture-Havlat combo. God knows it ain't Slowe Clowe.
You guys have some serious expectations for Gomez. Jesus H. I HOPE he's an average 3rd liner. There is no way in hell I want him anywhere near our top-6 and his presence is not what makes Clowe expendable.
●A fantastic playmaker. Last year, in what was certainly the worst season of his NHL career, Gomez's 5v5 primary assist rate (considered the best gauge of a player's playmaking ability) still ranked 31st in the league, ahead of centers like Joe Thornton, Anze Kopitar and Eric Staal. He ranked 23rd by that measure in 09-10 and 14th in 08-09.
