Max deal to stay under the 2 1sts, 2nd, and 3rd would be :

7 years @ 5.135m per
6 years @ 5.991m per
5 years @ 7.188m per

Better option would be just a 5 year deal.

5.75m per for 5 years
Okay thanks. Can you explain how you got the 7 years at 4.107m per number. All this is about as clear as mud.

7 x 4.107 = 28, 428 divided by 5= 5,685 million bucks which would be a 1st 2nd and 3rd as compensation.

It's max salary for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd tier over 7 years.

With offersheets, the dollar amount is divided by the years on the deal OR 5, whichever is lower.

since 7 > 5, you divide the dollar amount by 5

Max 5 year amount to stay under the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd is 28.75m

Still with me?

28.75m/5 = 5.75m if it's a 5 year deal

You still do the save formula for 6 and 7 year deals for compensation, but not the cap hit.

28.75m over 7 years comes to 4.107m per

Gotcha.. I knew there must've been something I was doing wrong. Thanks.

Edit.. I was using compensation numbers from the 70.2M cap instead of 60M.

? At the cost of him asking for a trade tomorrow? You can try it up to a point, of course. They've been at it since July, 2012, however. If he walks away at 23, you haven't really done a great job.

I just don't think the Diaz honeymoon will last that long. I think the fact that he has played all season has helped him.

How do you know he'll walk away at 28 years old when everything he has said points to him wanting to stay in Montreal but getting compensated properly??

Most GM's don't even have a shelf life of 6 years. If you can lock one of your best players to a 6 year deal, you do it.

Every player can walk when he's UFA. There is always risk involved.

If Eklund says to kill it, then I think we should do the opposite...but he is partly right because I think that the Flyers want the Cup now, which means that they won't part with Couturier. Offer sheet is on the way...Also, Bergevin would have problems matching (from a political standpoint), now that he has sold all the dumb media talking heads on his "structure" and also used them to demonize PK. It is getting ugly and I think that we will end up seeing (again) one of our young stars fully bloom into a superstar elsewhere. Salary structure, yes...but not STRICTLY based on signority. Last time we had the best team was in 1979...

Detroit - Montreal

Gustav Nyquist, Brendan Smith and Xavier Ouellet to Montreal

for

P.K. Subban, Lars Eller and Yannick Weber to Detroit

Detroit gets 3 NHL-ready players in a top defenseman, a 2C or 3C and a PMD PP specialist.

Montreal receives a young top 6 LW and top prospect D.

Think it's a fair trade proposal... what do u think?

No thanks from Detroit. Lars Eller is a 4c right now on the wings behind pav, hank, and helm. Weber is of no use at this point and I'm certainly not about to throw in Xavier Oullet to get him here. I'd like to have Subban, but Ken Holland doesn't move roster players in trades(Smith), especially for a guy who isn't even under contract. We'll be able to resign Smith for a fraction of the king's ransom Subban is looking for.

EDIT:
Essentially Detroit gets two throw in's and the rights to NEGOTIATE a contract with Subban, Montreal gets an NHL ready winger with top six skill, am NHL ready puck moving dman with wheels, AND our top d prospect...

Not really related to the topic but the poster above me just made me realize how good of a fit Eller would be in Detroit. It would be great if Datsyuk or Zetterberg could make him mold his game like theirs. Detroit would be good for his development.

Weber is a project and I'll give you throw in but eller really isn't a throw in.

Still, I'd rather subban without even looking at the deal. Fan favourite and most are hyped about his potential.

When I look at the deal I'm not wowed enough to change my mind.

we will see, I personnally think Diaz is better than Streit and I heard some scouts who said the same thing,

Bob Hartley coached Diaz in Switzerland and he only had great words about him.

I doubt Subban would be moving but the value is not bad. Obviously Subban is the big name in there but Eller is a good two-way and certainly has more offense than Helm. All three Wings have less than 20 games experience but the potential is there. Not sure Montreal coach Therrien would fall in love with Nyquist. Those "soff" comments may return.

Not real interested in this from a Detroit point of view. I do think the PK package would be huge should he be moved, but if that is the price, I hope Holland passes easily.

There are very few things out there I want to move one of those players for much less all three at the same time.

Good proposal IMO
Probably will not come to fruition, but not bad
