hahaha Perfect Game what a site

When I was actually good at baseball, we played East Cobb (who are top two in the country at every age group) in a tournament and lost 41-12. Probably the stupidest game I've ever played in.

Perfect Game is a scouting info site for young players. It is to college baseball what something like Baseball America is to MLB.

specifically, that page is for a second baseman's profile. A second baseman named (swear to god) Fenway Parks. Mr and Mrs Parks chose, of all things, to name their kid Fenway.

That's freaking hilarious, and I'm sure it pleases the mouth breathers down there too. As much as we think that's a dumb name, I'm sure most kids he grew up with thought it was the coolest thing ever haha

I dunno about that. I imagine most kids would've teased the crap out of him for it.

I don't even want to watch it that much anymore considering the three big Canadian prospects weren't given permission to play (James Paxton, Jameson Tailon, Oscar Taveras).

This says a lot about the tournament's reputation:

American Roster:

Ideal rotation: Price, Verlander, Sabbathia, Kershaw.

Real rotation: RA Dickey, Ryan Vogelsong, Kris Medlen, Derek Holland.

Ideal line-up: C Posey, 1B Fielder, 2B Pedroia, SS Tulo, 3B Headley, LF Braun, CF Trout, RF Stanton.

Real line-up: 1BMark Teixeira, 2B Brandon Phillips, SS Jimmy Rollins, 3B David Wright, Outfielders: Braun, Jones, Stanton.

Indeed. MLB needs to take it more seriously, and Bob Elliott's idea of every four years extending the All-Star break (Preferably to around 10-14 days) and putting on a real tournement. That way each country could put on their best talent and players would have no excuse of saying no, as well teams would have no way to preven their players from going.

It's tough to watch players from other teams in the MLB given how hard it is to find streams, so seeing some of these young players with Canadian passports (I give this distinction because Taillon did not play baseball in Canada, but he only carries a Canadian passport, and Taveras only played in Canada from ages 10/11 to 15) would be nice.

It's honestly just a meaningless tournament.

It's basically the IIHF World Championships of the baseball world. Except that it's probably the highest form of international tournament for them, whereas hockey has the Olympics, the world juniors even.

Gose is 100 percent to start in minors. What would be your expectations for Gose?
His bat improved alot in his second call up, and should continue to do so

I'd have to agree as sad as it is to say. There just doesn't seem to be that national pride as you see in other sports, specifically hockey.

I don't think this is it at all.

If they shutdown play every 4 years... like they do for hockey and the olympics... I think we'd see a crazy good tournament that has all the best players trying to win for their country.

The timing of the tournament etc. makes players wary about playing, which makes other players wary about playing... its not taken seriously.

If they made it a serious tournament that was mid-season where league were shut down I think it would be fantastic... but this is never going to happen.

The baseball season is long as it is. 162 games is a grueling schedule of non-stop travel. We don't need to tack on 10 more days. I'm not so sure players would be so keen to play during the break anyways. It's meant to be exactly that - a break. If anything, you'd think they'd want to relax for a few days with their families.

Can't speak for ESPN, but usually we do 1 or 2 Yahoo fantasy leagues around here.

In other news, if anyone cares, Brandon Lyon's off to the Mets. They seem to love to sign all our bullpen FAs
