Isn't the market average like 5 million per WAR?

In the end we may have one of the most cost-efficient teams in the league. It's like the 120 million dollar moneyball experiment.

About that, look at the outfielders who had 1.5-2 WAR seasons and they are all fairly average.

Jonny Gomes is a great example.

War at 2. Has been below that, including a - WAR two seasons ago.

He's getting 5 mill per year for 2 years. I take Melky, even pre steroid (excluding the Braves season) @ 7 mill per every day of the week.

It is 3.15 million based on opening day lineups. Based on his contract, he'd only need Gregor Blanco/Mark Trumbo production to break even money wise (and they were the 17th and 18th best WAR LF in baseball last year).

King Felix about to sign a 7 year 175 million dollar contract extension with the Mariners. Most lucrative contract ever given a pitcher.

I would have traded him if I were the Mariners.

Me too... given their payroll parameters, and the current state of their franchise... they should have gone the "Rays route" on this one. Why give Felix that contract?

Should have moved him for 3-4 MLB ready prospects, maximize that asset value. Spread that money around more effectively.

To me these Mariner teams look an awful lot like those Jays teams of the mid 2000's with Halladay and co.

Good deal for the M's. They had to re-sign him and getting it done early before he can start thinking about free agency and perhaps wanting to go the Dodgers who would give him whatever he wanted.

It's kinda insane that he is still just 26 years old and that deal will kick in when he is 29 years old. I'd expect Verlander to get a similar amount.

Certainly makes Dickey deal a hell lot better.

They can still trade him... and I am sure teams would love Felix locked up for a long-time, even at that price. They have some decent pieces there, great farm system and Felix who is in his prime and will be in his prime for a while so why not try to see if you can put together a championship caliber team?

Most likely, whatever they had gotten wouldn't have been good enough for Felix because he is a elite and a future HOF'er (assuming his arm doesn't burst or something).

Bad info. Apologies. Last two years of deal wiped out. A straight seven-year deal. Still long. Much, much more reasonable.

Oh well, this makes it way better.

I would of traded him for the bounty of young talent they could of recieved. Felix's velocity decline over the last few years gives me concern on a 7 year deal. http://www.fangraphs.com/pitchfxo.as...ion=P&pitch=FA

Our top 10 prospects according to ESPN:

1) Aaron Sanchez (RHP)
2) Roberto Osuna (RHP)
3) Marcus Stroman (RHP)
4) Matt Smoral (LHP)
5) Sean Nolin (LHP)
6) Anthony Alford (OF)
7) D.J. Davis (OF)
8) Adonys Cardona (RHP)
9) Chase de Jong (RHP)
10) Santiago Nessy (C)

and the writeup

Quote:
Farm system overview
There's almost no one left after the R.A. Dickey trade and the Marlins' fire-sale deal, although the Jays wouldn't deal top prospect Aaron Sanchez, who has the raw stuff and delivery to develop into an ace if he can develop average or better control. Their system's brightest lights after that are very young Latin American pitching prospects and the fruits of a value-packed 2012 draft.
2013 impact
If they want Marcus Stroman to pitch in their bullpen this year, he's ready, with a 92-95 mph fasttball and a knockout breaking ball (two, actually, that run together in velocity and break) and a solid change. John Stilson, who has a SLAP lesion in his shoulder and a violent delivery that won't hold up in a starting role, could also be pushed quickly to the majors, with now stuff that falls just below Stroman's. Lefty Sean Nolin could be their emergency starter this year, and Kevin Pillar could be the team's call-up if it needs an extra outfielder.
Sleeper
Catcher Santiago Nessy can really throw and has power, with a chance to be an above-average defensive catcher overall. He'll head to low Class A Lansing this year at age 20, with plate discipline the main thing he needs to work on right now. Lefty Daniel Norris' season was a disappointment overall, with his stuff still so inconsistent from start to start, but on the right day you'll see 94 mph with two above-average off-speed pitches.

He's not. It was probably either a flub or just a temporary move while they finalize the game's rosters (which they don't need to do until like March)

Just to give you guys how stacked we are from an offensive perspective, here is a look at where a Blue Jay ranks at every position according to Yahoo's fantasy baseball rankings:

1B: #4 Encarnacion
3B: #8 Lawrie
SS: #3 Reyes
C: #17 Arencibia
OF: #7 Bautista, #31 Melky, #63 Rasmus

And SPs:

#11 Dickey, #21 Morrow, #27 Johnson, #64 Romero, but Buerhle not in top 70 :S

I think it's gonna be a tough sell for them to their fan base if they did move him. I do believe they should have for the reasons some have already posted including yourself. I think he will be moved eventually and my prediction would be when he's 29.

Who uses the standard rosters anyway? I never buy the game untill Operation Sports puts out their rosters with full minors.

And in MLB The Show you can change player ratings while you're playing. It really helps because their prospect system is garbage, majority of the players in the minors have F potential which means they get worse from Day I, so if you lets say draft 1st overall and get a great player with horrible potential, you can artificially make him as a good as he's supposed to be.
