Well I work from home and don't put on the sports channels unless it's baseball or hockey. They run nothing but useless garbage especially during the day when those spring training games take place. I don't get rogers where I'm located so I can't get the games. I don't see why they wouldn't just run it even as better filler than what they currently run.

ESPN doesn't list any other positional eligibility for Bonifacio besides OF. Though I'm sure he'd end up with 2B again in short order if he and Izturis are going to split time to some degree.

FWIW, ESPN also no longer gives Bautista 3B eligibility.

Might as well continue to track Tao of Stieb's player-a-day Jays preview:

Day 1: RHP Esmil Rogers
Day 2: C Josh Thole
Day 3: LHP J.A. Happ

Hmm? JP played far more pre-injury than Thole did (4 1/2 months played pre-injury, I don't know how many Thole was but it was far less than that).

Sportsnet is going to re-air the entirety of the 1993 World Series just like it did the 92 one.

Well, not just like the 92 one. Instead these games are going to be spread out over the next 6 weeks, 1 game each weekend leading up to the end of March and the beginning of the 2013 regular season.

But it all kicks off on Sunday at 1pm ET/10am PT on the 4 regional sportsnet channels with game 1 (Curt Schilling vs Juan Guzman)

Pete Walker has mapped out basically the entire pitching lineup for the 1st ST game vs Detroit tomorrow:

Brandon Morrow will pitch 1 inning to start the game, and will be followed by roster hopefuls Brad Lincoln, Steve Delabar, and Esmil Rogers, before giving way to spring invitees Dave Bush, Ramon Ortiz, and Neil Wagner.

Good I get to see Delabar and Morrow pitch tomorrow but I was hoping Jeffress/Cecil would be pitching also

dunno if there's potentially more pitchers going to play tomorrow or if it's just that a couple of them are going to pitch a couple innings (maybe Bush and Ortiz)

The whole team won't be playing tomorrow, but we're supposed to get looks at Thole (starting at C), Arencibia (DH), Lind, Izturis, Bonifacio, and Lawrie

I'm assuming Boni and Izturis will be 2B/SS although who knows Gibbons might play Boni in the outfield

Maybe they're pitching the 2 innings not accounted for by Walker's list of pitchers being used.

I'm more excited to watch this series then the 92 one. This series is insane.

Agreed. I can't wait to see game 4 in its entirety, if only for the infamous Stottlemyer slide.

I hope they don't cut any of it for time. They didn't for the 92 series.

http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/sprin...-team-seen-mlb

insider article noting that the Jays could be one of the most dangerous/productive baserunning teams in recent memory.

Quote:
During the offensive heyday at the turn of the century, the break-even rate for base stealing was around 70 percent, with runners who succeeded less often not adding any real value to their teams no matter how many bases they stole. Last year, it was down to about 66 percent. Outs simply aren't as harmful as they used to be, and the potential run gained by getting into scoring position is more critical to winning than it was when every game ended 10-9.

The Blue Jays appear to be extremely aware of the rising importance of baserunning and have built a roster to take advantage of a more aggressive style than we've seen in some time. It also helps that they play on artificial turf, which speedsters love.
Over the last 10 years, no team has created more value on the bases than the 2010 Tampa Bay Rays, who checked in at 34 runs overall, led by Carl Crawford, B.J. Upton, Ben Zobrist and Evan Longoria. The team also featured quality running role players like Jason Bartlett and Sean Rodriguez. That team won 96 games and finished atop the American League East.

This Blue Jays team could very well challenge that Rays team for the best baserunning club we've seen. Even with Davis and Bonifacio serving as part-time players to begin the season and Gose likely ticketed for Triple-A, this is still easily the fastest team in baseball. And the Blue Jays' speed is likely to be a factor in every game they play this season.

Curious to see what your steals predictions are.

I'd say (and this is over entire seasons)

Melky - 15
Reyes - 45 to 50
Edwin/Jose/Rasmus - about 10 each (hopefully Rasmus displays more of that speed)
Lawrie - 20 (but I would be happy with 15 if he didn't run bases so wildly)
Bonficaio - 60 (if he's given a lot of playing time, about 40 if he's a super utility guy)
Davis - 35 to 40
Maicer - 20ish (if he's the everyday 2b)

Wow, looking at it now, if that happens I'll be really impressed

I think Reyes will take it slow in regards to steals the first season. Everyone including himself realizes there's a difference playing on turf so I wouldn't be surprised to see him settle in a tad below his career norm. Something around 30 would be my guess.

Izturis/Bautisa/EE/Rasmus shouldn't run all that much but they'll probably snag 10 or so each. Like the poster said above, Rasmus has the potential to hit 20 but that all depends on him getting on base.

Bonifacio and Davis could hit 50 each if they were in the lineup every day but again, playing time comes into play here. A more mild 30 each sounds reasonable. (which is crazy when you think about it)

Lawrie, around 20-25. Curious to see what Raines can do for him.

Wow, that is incredibly bold. I mean, Reyes has decent power but 30 homeruns? I dunno... but then again, if Ellsbury can do it, Reyes could do it too...?

20 homeruns is something he could achieve though.

If Bonifacio gets 450-500 plate appearances he can definitely get 50+ steals. Its why I want him to get plenty of playing time.

when I make bold predictions, I really just make ones that people never hear.

like say, bold prediction: Lind has an OPS over .800

Well wasn't he at an .800 (or close to it) at the end of the season?

Who knows, maybe the guy actually really considering this is probably his last chance; at least with the Jays.

What's the timetable restriction on signing international free agents?

End of their respective seasons or can it happen at any time?

There's a difference between doing it for a month or two, and doing it for an entire season.
