I wasn't aware he was a top 10 defenseman.

You joined in 2009. By that time he was in his infamous injuries phase. Dig up some polls from 08 and 09, he was widely considered top 10. Sometimes pushing the top 5.

Lidstrom
Pronger
Chara
Niedermayer

These guys were the top 4.

Markov and a couple of others were in the tier below.

I know it's a sarcastic post, but I'll bite.

From his play in the Swiss league during the lockout, a lot of people are wondering if he's not as good as Streit already.

Yep, 3 games there again, but unlike the other years where Markov was feeding the other D on the PP goals, Diaz is feeding Markov perfect shot opportunities. He's really impressive, and absolutely kicked Weber out of a roster spot. There's no contest there. Also he smartened up on defense and doesn't end up flat on his ass every 30 seconds like last year.

Markov always had a solid shot, but let's face it, it's not like Souray could ever set him up...

Anyhow, sorry board, but we've missed our General, and seeing him play again like he's never been injured make us giddy and warm and fuzzy and a lot of other happy stuff.

Few years ago he was. Was a dynamite offensively too, IIRC three or four seasons ago he was second in points per game for defensemen and led the league in assists for defensemen. Was also in the top 10 or 15 (Don't remember exactly) for assists across the entire league.

I was once a very big fan of him

If Markov is healthy and playing like he used to I take Markov.

I admit that this is hypothetical and Markov will have to show that he is truly back to his old self.

Do you really think the " k " can compare to the " n " in physicality ?

I remember waaay back when Redden was right up there too. But that was probably even earlier than 2009.

I also remember the Kaberle vs Markov debates. Both guys played a similar game and Leaf and Hab fans would go postal on each other about this...

There was a point when they were comparable. Both at that time were great offensive defensemen and powerplay quarterbacks. The difference is that Kaberle declined, while Markov didn't (apparently) despite his injuries. Times change, as always.

Why don't you all wait till he's hits double digit games played before crowning him top 10. . .

LOL...

Duncan Keith has had 2 seasons over 45 pts.
Andrei Markov has had 4 seasons over 45 pts (and is a lock for 45 pts every year if not for his injuries)

Duncan Keith: 284 pts in 564 games... 0.5 Pts/game (playing with Kane and Toews for a few years now)
Andrei Markov: 373 pts in 639 games...0.58 pts/game (often playing with horrible forwards)

And if you're still not convinced let's look season by season

05-06
Keith is 10th in team for scoring
Markov is 5th in team for scoring

06-07
Keith is 7th in team scoring
Markov is 4th in team scoring

07-08
Keith is 7th in team scoring
Markov is 4th in team scoring

08-09
Keith is 9th in team scoring
Markov is 2nd in team scoring (needed 1 more pt to become the first Habs D in history to lead the team in scoring). And just to give you an idea... the third in team scoring that year (Saku Koivu) had 14 pts less than Markov and the 4th in scoring had 21 pts LESS than Markov.

09-10
Keith is 2nd in team scoring (the year he won the Norris. But unlike Markov, Kane was 19 pts ahead of him and Toews and Sharp were within 3 pts of him)
Markov is 6th in team scoring despite the fact he only played 45 games (he was 3th on the team by pts/game)

If Markov had good forwards or good D partners, I'm sure he could have broke the 75 pts mark.
The fact he still made the PP the best in the league year after year with "OK" forwards is mind boggling.

I was being facetious man . And he was playing for that team, he wasn't even facing them lol.
But they are actually pretty tough, dunno how they would fare against the Bruins of this world though. They'd probably get served something like 9-0 and launch a line brawl.

+ Markov is still the BEST PP QB in the NHL. Lidstrom is a close second.

05-06
Detroit #1 PP with 22.1%
Montreal #5 PP with 19.2%

06-07
Detroit #21 PP with 17.1%
Montreal #1 PP with 22.8%

07-08
Detroit #3 PP with 20.7%
Montreal #1 PP with 24.1% (Philadelphia was 2nd at "only" 21.8%)

08-09
Detroit #1 PP with 25.5%
Montreal #13 PP with 19.2%

09-10
Detroit #9 PP with 19.2%
Montreal #2 PP with 21.8% (but we have to keep in mind Markov was injured in the first half. He came back and made our PP the best again)

Here is the stat I found from this thread: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh...d.php?t=865611

That's absolutely sick.

He was actually in decline in 2009. You have to look at 2006-07.

The guy must be a robot by now with the amount of injuries and surgeries he's had over the years.

No he is not a top ten. Give me a year and half healthy and perhaps.

Calling him top ten is like calling pronger top ten at this point.

Yeah Markov is a top-10 defenseman. And Joe Thornton is gonna score 3 points per game this season and Marleau will score 96 goals in 48 games. Riiiiight?

He's good. Always was sort of "best of the rest" when it came to defensemen who weren't annual Norris contenders. If its only for 1 game and age isn't an issue I probably can't name 10 defensemen better than Markov all around.

A healthy Pronger right now is top 5. If Pronger was playing he would be a top 5 dman, because he was a top 5 dman when he left.

Crosby is not the best player in the world because he missed a good deal of the last two seasons. I suppose you agree with that logic?
