I wish Joe would wake up and see this problem. Morrow has been on the downgrade since he returned from his spectacular Olympic performance in 2010.
To be fair ... he does. GMJN strongly insinuated Morrow, Nystrom and Fiddler were 4th liners leading into camp by saying they would be slotted better thanks to off-season additions. They were 3rd liners last year so the only place to go is the 4th line.
The damn owner flat out said on local radio they were 4th liners before correcting himself and saying it wasn't his call. He then just said they were in the Bottom 6.
This is a matter of the coach getting on the same page.
I'll say I've been pleasantly surprised by Nystrom, and I'd not have an issue at all with him on a 3rd line with Eakin. Fiddler has his good moments too, but he's clearly not in the same league as Eakin.

Agreed.
If they put Eakin back on the 4th line to keep that "3rd" line together, I will be absolutely livid.

Fairly certain he does. What contender would want to take his salary and handcuff their ability to add more salary at the trade deadline?
He's stuck here. If Dallas keeps half his salary ... you might move him. Otherwise, you're waiting until April 3rd.
Philly? Hartnell is hurt. They're dealing with several other injuries to forward. They actually had to put Shelley in the lineup last game. Offer Morrow for a mid range pick or average prospect and see if Philly is interested.
Barking at the refs every chance you get? Check.
Not holding yourself accountable? Check.
Not leading by example at all? Check.
It's beyond ridiculous. Morrow literally has no benefit at all on the ice. I don't know what's going on in the LR that is obviously keeping him in this situation, but it needs to stop, whatever the **** it is (even if it is beneficial).
Look no further than the guy who beat us tonight for want you want in a captain. Morrow is pretty much the exact opposite.

They just addressed that by signing Mike Knuble for $700K. Major win over adding Morrow IMO.
Is the only thing that makes sense to me for why they're putting up with it.
If Jordie/Reilly/Dillon/Eakin played half as bad as he does, they'd be in the press box the next game.
Smith got glued to the bench in the 3rd didn't he? I only saw that line two or three times in the third from what I remember .... and like they do the majority of the time ... they were creating chances in the offensive zone.
I do recall one pretty terrible turnover by Wandell in the D zone around midway through the period. If the whole line got benched for that, Gully needs his head checked. Smith and Garbutt were excellent again tonight. Smith had a couple shots from scoring areas, and I think Garbutt led the team in shots.
Is it bad that i would trade Morrow for Raymond straight up?
It's bad in the sense that Vancouver would probably laugh at you. I wanted Mason Raymond last year for Morrow because I felt he had a better shot at bouncing back than Morrow did, and from the limited minutes I've watched Canucks this year that is proving to be true.

Have no idea honestly, wasn't paying attention to ice time. But the fact that it wouldn't surprise me one bit says it all.
I definitely don't remember him being on the powerplay tonight (and wasn't for sure on the last one). I would much rather him be out there and make a mistake that leads to the goal than Morrow, because I know Reilly will actually learn from it and get better as a player. Morrow, yea...no.

Pretty sure they allow immediate amnesty buy-outs for players making 3+M, not just Gomez and Redden.
I believe that was a one time deal before the season started. Now the amnesty buyouts have to occur during the normal buyout period at the end of the season.
On the new deal where we can keep cap space etc., can we keep all of it or does at least some part have to go to the new team? Wouldn't happen obviously, but just thought I'd ask.
That's correct, and the percentage of salary and cap space have to be the same. Of course that doesn't matter with Morrow since his cap hit and salary are the same.

I've always been a Morrow defender, but sadly I think it's time. It just ****ing sucks to see though.. I will say to anybody that doubts his effort, you are sorely mistaken. It just seems like his body isn't allowing him anymore.

Definitely not a case of the Modanos or anything. His best effort is just not good anymore. And then there's the nights where he doesn't give his best effort...and yea...that's beyond bad. Never will question his love this franchise, cause he's given us all he has. But time to move on has come. And it's way more obvious than the time that Modano and Lehtinen left us.
Morrow getting power play time instead of Eakin or Smith should be illegal.
I seriously doubt there's a team out there that wants him at his current salary even if Dallas eats half of it. The question is what to do with him?
I don't think Gulutzan has the balls to sit him in the press box where he belongs. There's no way he'll retire and forego the paycheck or get paid not to play so they've got to limit his minutes and he really, really needs to play with linemates who are faster than Fiddler. Those two together are a disaster and Nystrom's not good enough on his own to pick them up.
In my perfect world, bring in Benn cut Morrow. Close second is cut Wandell. I'm not sure I like it but maybe they should try:
Morrow-Eakin-Smith
Nystrom-Fiddler-Garbutt
if they insist on playing Morrow. Regardless he needs to be told to cut out the penalties or he will be in the press box. I blame Morrow and the refs for this lost point as much as I blame Nystrom.
