Will The Rock debut a new WWE Championship tonight?

Quote:
- The word going around today at Raw is that the Rock may debut a new custom designed WWE Title belt. While not confirmed, there were drawings and designs for a custom title for The Rock, with the belief that Rock will debut it tonight, which is the first night of his run with the belt. At this time, this is considered a rumor.

Well, can't be worse than the current belt. I was always a little annoyed that they didn't let CM Punk bring back one of the older belts. He was the champ for 400+ days and had to cart around that horrible excuse for a belt the whole time.

I actually wish they would bring back the old Undisputed belt but I doubt they would.

That title won't debut. I can't see it. It failed to debut 12-14 years ago. I still have my replica of that title. If it does, it won't last long and have ANOTHER title debut once he goes back to Hollywood?

Interesting.

It would be nice to see a totally new title belt but it's probably going to be just a custom belt for The Rock that gets brought in temporarily. It would kind of cool if they bring in the Brahma Bull belt (the one in CPrice's post) that's been floating around the internet for years.

I do hope they actually get around to designing a brand new title belt. Maybe this is the first step in doing that.

Meh, it worked back then. Austin had his Smoking Skull belt, Rock had the Brahma Bull belt, and then they went back to the regular WWE Championship.

The Rock having his own WWE Championship can properly lead to bringing in the NEW WWE Championship post-WrestleMania when The Rock loses it.

I hope it's not the one that leaked a while ago though. I remember at a Q&A someone asked Punk if there's going to be a new title coming in and Punk said he's seen it, and it's not any better than what they currently have.

This is actually a great way to introduce a new title belt. Rock holds his custom belt until Mania where he drops it to whoever (probably Cena). The next night the new champion brings in a brand new belt and it turns out the Royal Rumble was the last time we ever saw that lousy spinner belt.

IMO, the most ideal time to get a new belt would've been back during the Summer of Punk when Punk was ripping the WWE title belt at the time. Punk wins MITB, comes back a couple weeks later with a brand new belt design to challenge Cena and his spinner belt. Summerslam 2011 ends the same way with Punk unifying the WWE Championship and we never hear from the spinner belt again.

What are they stealing? WWE's had custom belts for superstars before TNA was even around.

Austin had one, Rock had one, Cena had a custom United States Championship belt, Edge had a custom WWE Championship and I'm probably forgetting a few.

Ok, now I remember that.

I may be wrong and I've seen every Rock segment in his career at least a dozen times each. Or maybe it's just the concussion, but I really don't recall Rock every debuting that title before. He created it, and kept it to himself for his mantel at home.

The other titles though I remember, just not Rocks.

I don't think The Rock ever used his custom belt before, did he? I thought they had one for him, but it was never used.

My mind is telling me The Rock did use it... but that may be me using my imagination. I could have sworn he used it at some point, though.

Either way, the point is, custom belts for superstars have been around long before.

Custom belts are cheesy. I'd prefer a newly designed company belt. The champsionship belt carries a certain gravitas that should be standard and uncompromised.

In an ideal world, yes I agree. Unfortunately this title hasn't had that luster in quite some time. It meant something when Punk walked out of Chicago as champion in the summer of 2011, and hasn't ever been close to that status since then.

I can't believe they've been using the spinner title for almost 8 years. Back then I thought, they'd only use it for Cena's first title reign. The belt seems to be hated by everyone. I don't know why they keep it.

I hate custom belts. For me, it ruins the prestige of the title a bit. They should have just stuck with the eagle belt they used in the 90s (maybe even the 80s?). It would have been so cool for a wrestler like Cena to be holding the same belt that guys like Hogan and Savage did. Imagine if the Stanley Cup was customized with LA Kings colours and logos all over it.
