But given that he's a UFA and is off to a slow start, I suggest that his value is actually slightly diminished as of today.
I'd give a MASSIVE edge to Weiss defensively. Weiss is a defensive center who can also give you 50+ points. Ribeiro is a mostly offensive player who can be a defensive liability.

In any case, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. No sense in arguing over subjective points (which one of us values which player more) until a deal gets done (if it gets done at all).

Anyway...there was no reason to lose that game. Karlsson is great but he can't carry this team by himself. We need Spezza back...or at least a stop-gap that can help.

Please get O'Reilly or Weiss.
O'Reilly and Weiss aren't stop-gaps. They are semi-expensive (Weiss) to expensive (O'Reilly) players who will cost an arm and a leg to acquire. Honestly a lot of this team is clicking right now, so I wouldn't move out a whole lot off the roster.

If Regin/Lats + Bishop + pick/prospect can get us a center than obviously we pull the trigger, but anything more than that and I'm content to stand pat and hope that our veterans can keep us in the playoff hunt until Spezza gets back.

Zibanejad Turris Alfredsson
Michalek Backlund Silfverberg

Bishop+ ? for Backlund

If Anaheim somehow doesn't resign Getz or Perry, do you think it would be worth looking into one of them? BM drafted them both and Perry could possibly take over Alfie's spot at RW if he retires

Damn 5th round picks. Lowering Gonchar's trade value.

Calgary would never do that, as Backlund has finally developed into a top-6 forward. Also, I think Calgary wants to see what Irving can do in Kiprusoff's absence, although Kiprusoff isn't expected to miss a lot of time.

Ottawa likely wouldn't make the trade right now as Backlund injured his knee last night. Not sure the severity of his injury.

As someone else mentioned, that's not a star player. No where near one. He was only nominated for the Selke Trophy once and has only 2 seasons where he's broken 50 points. Stars in the NHL are difference makers and guys who can completely change the game. Fisher isn't that. If Fisher put up 70+ points and was a legitimate #1 centre like Datsyuk, Toews, Mike Richards, etc., then he would be considered a star.

You have a very loose definition of a "star" player. May as well call David Legwand and Matt Stajan stars.

We don't need Ellerby. We have Boro who does his job better.

really think murray should be looking at options for michalek and see whats out there.

Now I am not saying trade him but he could get a nice return...good producer with playmaking centers, one year at a relatively cheap price left on contract.

Going to depend on playoffs/ if we can get a scoring winger in return/further development of younger talent.

just for fun how about vancouver possibilty...in cup win mode, missing scoring winger for years, has some good young pieces, would have to take salary back but maybe good thing they pay extra for....

It could be worthwhile to move Michalek, but we would need to target a top six winger as part of the return.

Trading Michalek seems very counter productive when top six forwards are what we need.

Dammit. I thought Ellerby was Fla's best defender in the games we played them (not saying much, and Campbell was underwhelming) but for a 5! Hes only 24, and could be resigned for cheap on the bottom pair. I would've given a 3rd.
