By that logic, you know Phaneuf as much as Elisha Cuthbert does.

That will happen with your TOI leader. Teams score goals in the game of hockey.

You're new, aren't you?

Phaneuf has been excellent barring two periods where the entire team was awful against the Islanders. Don't know what stuff half the guys in here are on.

It's the "in" thing to hate Phaneuf.

He's definitely not the same player he was touted as coming into the league. No way he gets a $6.5 million per annual contract on his next contract. He's not an elite defensemen anymore, just a very good one.

No one would take phaneuf because he's massively overpaid.

Is Phaneuf done? In a word, yes.

He isn't and won't ever be that player he was when he first came into the NHL, just like Ovie won't ever be the same..

He puck watches and never takes the man... Both Ranger goals are perfect examples...

Don't take this the wrong way as I'll be the first to admit that plus/minus is an overrated, almost meaningless stat, but he's sitting 610th out of 610 at -8.

Healy said it best - the team lacks veteran presence, leadership and hockey intelligence that a good captain brings to the team

At what point does Leaf Mgmt, and Toronto media fall out of love with Phaneuf? This guy makes so many mistakes, and being on the ice for 25 mins a game, it accentuates those mistakes. He is no better than a number 5 or 6 d-man (at best). How often does he have to let guys "sneak" behind him, or does he have to clear the puck up the middle like a peewee C house-leaguer. He panics when pressured, which is not a great trait for the captian for your team.

Trade, or Buy-out Phaneuf. Only Komeserik (worst player in the NHL, or AHL) plays a more pathetic game. People say that the Kessel deal was Burke's worst move...I say taking Phaneuf in and making him captain was equally bad, or worse. At least Kessel brings something to the table.

The Leafs will never be a playoff team with him as captain.

Last two games he hasnt played well. Overworked. But its really too bad he cant hit the net. Its amazing. He has a hard shot but for the life of him cant put it on net.

Phaneuf was good for 3 games this year...but bad for 82 last year! He is supposed to be the leader of this group?

The team has no identity. Back in the 80's, most fans scooped up Vaive, Salming, Clark, Leeman, even Bester jersey's...in the 90's it was Gilmour, Anderychuk, Sundin, Beflour, Joseph jerseys...if you were to buy a jersey today, who do you put on the back? Kulemin, Grabbo, Kessel?? We're in a sad state...worst I've seen since the Bill Derlago/Dan Daoust days. Maybe John Brophy can be hired as the conditioning coach.

Not worried about his offensive output...he is absolutely lost in his own end.

Wow... shows how rampant the Leaf trolls are when we're getting Healy quotes.

You're absolutely correct. He's -4 against the Rangers and Leaf fans still think he's an all-star. Leaf fans are hopeless.

Begging the question, attacking the messenger, appealing to the herd, ad hominem...

13 words, four logical fallacies...

Komisarek

2012-2013 SEASON STATISTICS plus/minus =0

Jan 23 '13 TOR @ PIT 14:27
Jan 19 '13 TOR @ MTL 16:27

Phaneuf

2012-2013 SEASON STATISTICS Plus/minus = -8

TOI

Jan 26 '13 TOR @ NYR 32:38
Jan 24 '13 NYI @ TOR 25:50
Jan 23 '13 TOR @ PIT 25:47
Jan 21 '13 BUF @ TOR 28:43
Jan 19 '13 TOR @ MTL 26:43

I am not a Komi fan but he has played well when called upon. A #1 D man does not play to a -8 look.

Shea Weber Plus +1 26avg mins on ice
Drew Doughty -1 Avg 29 mins on ice.
Marc Staal +2 Avg 22 mins on ice.
Eric Karlsson +6 Avg 26 mins on ice.

Seems like these #1 D men do fine for themselves, nice to know how much we have settled on mediocre though.

Ps I agree with your post just need to defend Komi, he has played well.

I think Dionne is a solid defense man but at 6.5 he is over paid. Its much like the Jay Boumeester situation in Calgary.

If Dionne was making 3.5 mil everyone would be extremely happy. Even 4 mil.

but had 44 points and 12 goals last season. 12th in points among defenceman and 9th in goals... so terrible.
