I really don't know what they could get out of him that could help immediately.

Maybe a lower level AHL player or prospect though.

Some team like Blues could use LH shot D man.

I'd guess that St. Louis is pretty well set after signing Redden. Ottawa or Detroit would make some sense, particularly Detroit IMO. LA may be another option.

High probability, but my guess he'll get an already drafted prospect. If he continues to play like he has, maybe both. As much as I dog GMGM, he does get some good returns. Ironically, his Oates deal to Philly years ago was considered a huge win. Too bad Oullet didn't work out.

This is hockey, not rocket science. Every time I played with new linemates I didn't suddenly not know what to do.

Honestly it's just another excuse anothing thing for Caps fans to ***** a moan about.

it really doesnt make any sense. knowing mcphee who hoards defensemen. right now they have two injured and out indefinately. the two spares right now are hamrlik and poti. poti's career was over off a groin injury. who knows if he plays anymore at this point.

that leaves 7 d. no chance that mcphee trades a healthy d right now

Detroit already has only one RH D. And he's currently injured.

Yeah, and they did sign Huskins recently. I just don't consider Ericsson and Quincey as particularly reliable. I think Hamrlik would be their second most reliable defensive defenseman after Kronwall. He's not overly fast but within a structured system it's manageable and he'd also help their PK. It probably won't happen but I think they do have a need.

A pick or a prospect. Probably not a whole lot unless a team is desperate. Laich's return will require a move. That may just be Kundratek but you never know. Certainly this team is no stranger recently to sitting veterans out for long stretches.

Maybe they could get someone like Loktionov from LA plus a late pick. They could probably use a better recall forward option than what they've got now (Potulny, Mitchell and perhaps in time Wellman).

Is Loktionov worse than MP?

EDIT: I can see GMGM keeping Carlzner, Green, Orlov, Kundratek, Schultz and Erskine as 7D for next season.

1. He doesn't know yet what he has in Orlov actually and will not count on him as permanent top-4, that's my guess
2. In effect we will have 6&7 Dmen for 4M+. That's crazy comparing to Kundratek.

So it better be Erskine/Schilling/Wey as 6/7/8 for that matter money-wise.

What we really need I think is another LD to play with Carlson.

Alzner-Green
?-Carlson
Orlov-Kundratek
Erskine
AHL callups

Thinking it could be Poti was good a week ago. Now when he's sitting I guess we shouldn't count on him. Or he would be playing.

PS: ES GAA/60 for D

Green - 1.20
Erskine - 2.17
Alzner - 2.70
Hamrlik - 2.91
Carlson - 3.46
Kundratek - 3.86
Schultz - 3.90
Poti - 4.35

So when Knuble said they needed time and consistency to build chemistry, he didn't know what he was talking about?

Ericsson has been pretty solid imo. Maybe Wings best dman, imo.

Kronwall is trying to do too much, he is good #2 but can't carry the load of being #1.

Quincey is.. inconsistent, brutal.. Smith is still rookie and going through growing pains.

They have 8 dman as of now but Hamrlik certainly could help there, vet presence and solid defensively. Only Ericsson and Kronwall have better D imo.

Just won't get much value for almost 40 yr old rental. And Caps would be screwed if injury bug hits our D.

So if the Caps were to be in on Luongo what's an acceptable price? Brouwer? Laich? Johansson+? VAN would need a goalie coming back most likely.

I was surprised by this persisting speculation given the fact that you guys already have two young stud goaltenders. But maybe it's true

Johansson, Schultz and picks? Maybe Mcphee can even wrangle a project prospect out of them. I don't think Vancouver can get great value for him.

For the record I want no part of him. Goalies just aren't worth that kind of cap expense in today's NHL. ..outside of like 3 guys. Maybe.
