no i was wrong, luongo is the worst player to ever walk the earth. having ovechkin play goal would make for better use of cap space and personnel. have mcphee play ovechkin in goal and extend him for another 15 years

i only go from what ive seen. luongo was not good for team canada in the olympics. he was yanked 4 times and benched for a 5th start in 2011. he was benched in 2012.
now his team wants to remove him and rely on a goalie of similar performance and experience to either of the caps young goalies.
i see that and wonder why if vancouver wants out, why the caps should want in?
is vancouver just wrong? if vancouver is demonsterably wrong, where's the line to get luongo away from them?
call me suspicious
It's not about Vancouver being right or wrong. This is about them going in a different direction. You wonder why really? It's clear the relationship has gone the wrong way and both sides have agreed to move on, that's why they want out. (That +contract +stud young goalie waiting in the wings).
Wasn't Luongo 5-0 with a 1.76 GAA with a Gold Metal in the last Olympics?

George McPhee....The Teflon GM. 15 years of failure and counting....
6 - Number of playoff series the Capitals have won since George McPhee took over as General Manager in 1997 (which makes him the third-longest-tenured GM in the League), three of which came in McPhee's first season on the job.
ok...i see the error of my ways. luongo is the difference maker the caps need. fire mcphee because he says no.
The stances you take are so funny sometimes. As if firing McPhee is all about saying no to Luongo. Maybe you've missed the last 15 years of McPhee's reign?
There are several other teams in need of waking up as well. Wonder if a shake-up trade could be worked out with LA, Philly, or Florida. Target guys like Bernier, Timonen, or Versteeg.
He's never been the kind of GM to make moves out of desperation, has he?
Well to be fair I do not want a GM making desperation moves. They rarely work out and you overpay.
Will the Caps be a contender this season with Luongo? No
Will the Caps be a contender with another top 6 winger? No
Will the Caps be a contender with another top 4 D Man? No
Will the Caps be a contender with adding all 3? unlikely, only if the star players get their act together
I really hope GM is not planning on any desperation moves just to potentially make the playoffs. This team is by far the worst Caps team for at least 5 years. This is not likely to change with one or two moves.

Well said. But still. do you have any faith that desperation or no, GMGM can fix this mess? I do not.
Why on earth would we trade for Luongo (and his crazy contract) while we could sign somebody like Niklas Backstrom or Jimmy Howard as a UFA for a less-crazy contract while not sacrificing any assets??

You assume those players will WANT to come here. I can't imagine why they would.

Neither do I. I think he did a good job till last season, despite not getting the missing piece and making the final step. Was not that much missing to be fair and the general approach was correct.
The decisions in the last 2 years have been horrendous so. Time to regroup and give someone else the chance.
This team did nothing in free agency too, except lose Wideman and Semin and add Ribeiro. We would of had a solid bunch if we had all these players together. GMGM decided to be cheap this year by adding Wolski. If Wideman costed to much we could of got Souray for 20% less, he is one of the best D in the league, would of helped Green develop. Seriously and we hire a rookie coach that had no more than 2 years of coaching experience. #FireGmGM

I really think you're a troll account. It's subtle but consistently there.

I'll take the opposite.
They think a Semin or Souray would be good to have. George wanted Wideman and so can msrulo. At least ms is talking Caps hockey! Ironically, they now think you are the troll account.
