I think a target should be something of the opposite that most are thinking. It's prospect this or young player that on these boards, why is it that we neglect how this team needs some veteran leadership among the forwards?

Good trade that I say will severely help Kessel now without Lupul for extended period of time + bring some much needed strength & grit + scoring ability + leadership is to trade both MacArthur and Gunnarson to Dallas for Brenden Morrow . He has a NTC so It probably can't happen but this is the type of player this team should be looking for at the moment to trade for or in the off season UFA to sign.

It can't be all about adding more unproven talent. The Young guys on the team need help. Say the Leafs make this move and Lupul returns think of just how much help Morrow would be for Kadri?

Not saying that they shouldn't look to add 1st round picks, good prospects or young players if they can , just saying the team shouldn't neglect helping the young players already on the team cause they need help to continue to grow and develop.

If Kessel looks like he won't re-sign, I'd move him for someone like Kane on the Jets. Exact kind of player we need.

I think we should go after Douglas Murray for our bottom pairing, or even second pairing. He's still a capable d-man and a beast, and can be relied on for shutting down other teams. We need a veteran presence on the back-end and Murray could be available because the Sharks are deep at D.

I honestly can't see us moving anyone until this season standings are a bit more clear.

Leafs need to be sellers, get overpayment for any player tradable, and move forward, this line up isn't close to being competitive, might as well start the long awaited "traditional rebuild". I will say it's refreshing to see stiffs like Connelly assigned to a team worthy of his talent.........American League team, too bad it's the Marlies.

5 games in and we've gone from 'stay the course' to 'blow it up'?

Three way trade where we ship out Kessel and get

Voracek and ROR

THAT is interesting. In my opinion.

A deal where we ship out Dion + a bit and get

PK Subban

Lupul - ROR - Voracek
JVR - Grabovski - Kulemin

I like dat.

And draft high! Because our defense still sucks.

We have an amazing oppurtunity this coming draft

One of the severe criticisms of the Leafs by many on this board is the Lack of true blue chip talent in our good but not great prospect pool. Selecting Rielly was our first true blue chip prospect in many years..

This year the draft is generally accepted as the best in years and the top 10 if not top 15 picks likely to be Blue chip talent compared to other years where the top 5 is the limit..

This is a year we will have a top 10 or better with our own draft position...

The oppurtunity is that we have players that could be dealt to other teams to get additional firsts and packaging them to move into the top 15 to get another or maybe even 2 additional top 15 picks

How much better would the Leafs be with 2-3 new Blue chip prospects added to our future?

Barkov as our #1C, Pulock on D, and a Erne or Rychel as a winger with power forward resume..

Nope. Both Voracek and Simmonds were the secondary pieces of the Carter and Richards trade.

I'd want one of the primary pieces (Couts) +

I like Voracek a lot more than Couturier. I like both, a lot, but Jake is one of my favourite players.

Edit: I changed my above post btw. What do you think of something around the first trade? I'm not sure how highly you value ROR.

Voracek is nice but we would be great with having a guy like Couturier, he has a lot of untapped skill Imo.

No doubt, since he's super young.

I don't think he's a 1C though. A more offensive Hanzal IMO (not a negative for Couts, I LOVE Hanzal).

If we moved Kessel to Philly I'd want to build something around

Kessel

for

Couts+Simmonds

Not sure what would have to be added for it to be fair, but if they want Kessel with Giroux then they better be willing to overpay.

I like ROR.

But I'd take Bozak + Kessel > RoR + Voracek tbh.

I'd do that. Or replace Simmonds with Voracek. Either one is a good basis

Phaneuf for Subban?

No way Habs make that deal even straight up never mind the fact that Phaneuf is making way more.

But Subban could be on the market soon as the Subban camp are getting pissed off with Montreal's low balling.

Would really like to move Kessel for a #1 centerman or a top pick C. Any trade ideas with that?

I think there is more to him tbh. However I could be wrong and his game doesn't translate as I'd hope in the NHL.

I truly hope they do trade kessel, yeah he's a good sniper and is capable of PPG seasons, but he's far too soft on the forecheck and very weak defensively. Trade him at the deadline if we can.

He's still young and has improved quite a bit under Carlyle. This isn't the first time Carlyle has tuned an offensive wingers game into much more, Kessel might become even better than has advertised this season so far.

Leafs don't need any miracle trades to be a playoff team next year:

JVR(4.25) Grabovski(5.5) Perry(7)
Lupul(5.25) Kadri(2) Kessel(5.4)
Kulemin(2.8) Bozak(2.5) Frattin(0.925)
Komarov(1.2) McClemment(1.5) Brown(0.737)
Orr(0.7)

Gunnarsson(2.35) Phaneuf(6.5)
Ranger(2) Komisarek(4.5)
Rielly(1.775) Jones(1.775)
Gardiner(1.117)

Reimer(1.8)
Scrivens(0.613)

Tucker(1)
Armstrong(1)

Team Payroll(64.192)
Salary Cap(64.3)
Cap Space(0.108)

Draft high and sign Perry.

I'm actually a strong advocate of tanking. I've been watching the Leafs for 20 years (it really does fly by), and I think I've been patient enough as a paying customer. My expectations have raised now that Rogers owns a huge chunk of the team. I like how they've said that they want to build the right way, but I'm sure they can sympathize with my skepticism.

I'd like to see a top 5 pick, and the moving out of guys like Phaneuf and Kessel for multiple assets. Trade either, and the team that gets them will have two full seasons to utilize/re-sign.

I like both, but I'd like to see multiple assets that increase the team's overall skillset.

Right now, we have Gardiner and Rielly projected as top-pairing defensemen. Finn, Percy, and Blacker are anyone's guess, but they don't seem like anything more than potential second-pairing fodder. Maybe expendable in a trade. I'd like to get another projected first-pairing defender.

Offensively, and long-term, we have JVR, Lupul, and Kadri with top-line potential. I don't trust Kessel to re-sign with a team that has struggled for a decade, nor do I care for his game outside of his offense. His offensive capabilities are obvious, as are his youth and durability. Massive value, and a piece that could return several good pieces, not to mention help the team obtain a better draft pick. If he had a long-term contract, I might think differently.

I'd look to move Phaneuf and Kessel. Both have produced long enough that their value is stable, and both would bring sizable returns. No reason whatsoever why a current first-liner and a #1 defenseman can't return a potential first-liner, and a potential top-pairing defenseman, not to mention what would likely be other lesser assets.

Just imaging building around a top pairing of Rielly - Jones. Wow.

Although, I really want a centre in this draft.
