Let's be realistic here.

Heatley isn't that far off of Kessel (if not equal). Major cause for concern would be age and contract of course.

Because Heatley is older and on a worse contract they add Granlund to the deal to help out, but Granlund is a bit much to bridge the gap, hence...

Gardiner for Dumba/Brodin, where as Gardiner is worth more so the value from Granlund above alleviates the deal as a whole.

I'd add to Kessel for OEL.

Although I'd prefer if PHX added obviously

His points totals don't blow me away. Not a lot of PIMs. +/- is nothing notable. Hits are meh. Blocks are above 1 per game, which is decent.

Overall I see no reason to trade him for the 6th leading scorer in the league last year.
Here's a fantastic article on how good he is:

Edited your post for accuracy.

If the Leafs have so many d-men, why are they terrible defensively and have been for so long?

Do you believe Dion Phaneuf is a number d-man? Because Ekman-Larsson certainly is right now.

Certified #1 d-man who are only 21 years of age do not grow on trees.

Heatley hasn't been at kessel's level since he left Ottawa... NTM his bloated salary...

Kessel = Heatley + Brodin + 1st
Gardiner = Granlund

thats how i see it

OEL is a good player BUT is also a product of a great defensive system.

This can't be overlooked!

Kessel has put up huge numbers against the best D line and without a true #1C

This can't be overlooked!

and by the way Yandle is their #1D and OEL is #2

You can say the same about Kessel and Wilson's run and gun

OEL is far and away their #1. Post it on their board and ask.

Also another offer for PHX if they want to keep OEL

Gormley + Boedker + 1st

Boedker and Kadri have good chemistry iirc. Would be a good for together.
Gormley is a future top pairing guy IMO
That 1st can be good

Phaneuf to EDM for...

1st + Gagner/MPS + Klefbom/Lander

(Not saying I want Dion gone, just wondering value)

Then why not just trade Gardiner for Granlund and go with Lupul-Granlund-Kessel?

(obvz the Wild never would but for the sake of discussion)

Terrible.

Rather go to Colorado for O'Rielly + 1st. Gagner and MPS are worthless and Klefbom/lander are B-level prospects.

I doubt Colorado gives up RoR + 1st for Phaneuf. For Kessel, maybe.

I'm banking on the Oilers 1st to be top 5ish again lol

Phaneuf would never bring in any of those types of offers. Phaneufs game is not what it should be and he is way over paid because of so.

How many people would lose their minds if Nonis pulls a desperation move and trades pieces of the future?

The Edmonton Offer I proposed does not seem that outlandish. Edmonton acquires a big, hulking defender who they could use on their top D line who can mentor the young defenders, and the Leafs get futures, and a potentially decent 1st.

I'd want Smid+1st, but would settle for Klefbom+Lander+1st.
