Nashville hasn't had an offensive player like Kessel.. since uh... Radulov I guess.

Considering they are struggling, they might be willing to part with a first round pick and a young player; Similar to the Jordan Staal trade from Pittsburgh to Carolina, who had the #8 draft pick in last year's draft.

2013 first round pick and Austin Watson or Craig Smith for Kessel. Maybe another pick or decent player from Nashville. Boom.

In reality though, I see Kessel staying.

Yes, I agree but Cox's article was the main ignition source and I'm not entirely convinced that he doesn't stop by here once in a while. The timing of his articles suggests this..

It's better to trade him now when his value is high.

Kessel to Minnesota for 1st, 3rd and Dumba.

Let's be realistic, we won't get the same return as what we sent for Kessel.
That's terrible. If it comes to that, it's Granlund + Dumba or bust for Minnesota. Kessel would still have 1 year left on his contract next year if he shows the desire the leave.

If you are talking his last season, then we will get less than that.

Minnesota has a pretty deep prospect pool. Granlund though I think is pretty much untouchable.

Could maybe get two of Coyle, Dumba, and/or Brodin. Otherwise could probably get one of them, Setoguchi (cap space) and a 1st.

We're not gonna get Granlund + Dumba. I dont think Kessel could get us a prospect of Granlunds calibre (~top 5-10 league wide).

Would need all three I think.

Nashville is actually a team that could really really use Kessel.

I think we should somehow acquire Wolski and Gomez. Wouldn't you agree?

So could Vancouver.

I'd suggest Kassian, Luongo, Raymond and a 1st.

Seriously? The package we can get for him would help us more for now and the future then what Kessel brings us

Who would you target if we were to deal Kessel anyway? (realistically)

Top prospects I assume? Picks I'm not so sure I'd want for Kessel, rather an already highly touted prospect.

Or even a younger established player? (not like Kessel''s old or anyrhing)

The real question is what can that package get us?
...and that package?
....and what about that one?

I think the Leafs will want at least top center prospect or top young center player in any deal that involves Kessel.

The rest that comes with that prospect/player will depend on the quality of the said prospect/player.

I hate being a broken record, but if Nashville is a frontrunner, they would likely ask Watson and a top pick, maybe a bit more.

If it's Colorado (hypothetically), Duchene (again, just an example.) could be a target but the rest of the package likely won't be much more than because Duchene has great value as well.

Again, it really depends on the quality of the players/picks involved.

I would do anything I could (realistically) to get one of Duchene or O'Reilly from the Avs. There is a deal to be made for one of their young centres.

He's already put it all together, it's just when he comes to the NHL. Doubt Washington even considers moving him though. He's the future for them.

If you were the GM of a team that has never made any noise in the playoffs, and had the opportunity to add a 25 year old gamebreaking forward for a couple of question marks, you'd hold on? If your job is to win the cup, and you just signed two 27 year old stars, you're not going to wait another 3 years for Granlund to MAYBE make a difference and become elite when you can get a better player right now.

Every year, all over this site, people proclaim young players to be untouchable because they're obsessed over top-end potential, but most people don't really tend to look at the likelihood of a player reaching his top-end potential. Most don't, and that's why GM's often take a more conservative approach when gauging value.

Granlund isn't as good as Kessel is right now, and there's a very good chance he won't ever become a top 10 or 20 scorer. That's after waiting for him to develop first. Kessel is a proven gamebreaking forward. Right now.

It would take far more than a Granlund-type player to land a player of Kessel's calibre.
