If he wants to be a successful centre in the NHL he's needs to learn how to win face-offs. His talent and playmaking ability have gotten him this far, but winning offensive and defensive zone draws is a huge element in becoming a two-way centre. He's going to be on the ice for a lot of goals if he's only winning 30% of defensive zone draws.

A lot of young c have problems at the dot. It can be learned as he studies those he takes face offs against.

I'm confused by this thread. Bozak is UFA July 1st. Grabovski is signed long-term. It's more what happens to Bozak. They won't need him.

And BTW-if you complain about Grabs' salary, you'll never be happy with any upcoming UFA's being re-signed. They'll all get huge increases.

Gabo for a top 4 D straight up and should be relatively easy trade

McCarthur Franson dealt to San Jose Ryan Clowe or dealt to Tampa for Ryan Malone

Both older playoff warrior power wingers with size to slot into the 2nd line allowing a Biggs & Bennett time to develop and then slide Malone/Clowe to 3rd line winger as Biggs/Bennett grabs 2nd line spot
Nope....

Why do we need Malone and I guess you can also add Clowe.

We are clearly rebuilding/taking the youth direction.

You can't take 4 games and cherry pick one stat although there are others. That was 1/10th of an argument. I counter with Grabs deadly shot. We can tit for tat this out slow like but Grabs will be the superior player and you will be left with arguments like chemistry.

____
Kadri
Bozak
McClement

If we can find a #1 C I think Grabo is gone. I love Grabo. But at his cap hit I prefer Kadri/Bozak as the 2nd/3rd line C.

That's one good area, but clearly Grabovski is the better player. Bozak's stats last season were not very good given he was playing with two star wingers who were top 5 in NHL scoring until one of them got injured.

I'm not so sure Bozak will re-sign with the Leafs if they see him as a 3rd line centre and Kaddri passes him. They won't give him a huge raise based on that.

And if Bozak pits up 60 pace and wants 4.5 5mil what then. I am sorry but for the extra mil or mil and a half I am taking grabovski on my team.

Nothing happens. If the Leafs can roll three scoring lines they are much better off.

If he knows what's good for him he signs at whatever. He the most padded C in the NHL. Oh hey look a well rounded but avg C out of college who is good on the dot and at potting junk in front of the net. If they had the incline to do so they could probably get similar from Colborne or better.

Um no we couldn't. Colborne isn't on bozaks level offensively, defensively, physically, etc

No team can all be young, there has to be character and experience from Playoff veteran types who know how to win

1 of Clowe/Malone could be a mentor for biggs/bennett

And Biggs or a Bennett type is not ready yet to be 2nd line winger who is a power forward type..

When there isn't a leafs game on, yes. I usually stream the games if I could find one.

He's picked his game up from the beginning of the season but I still don't see the 50 point NHL upside. Which is what Bozak is at now.

Bennett isn't a power forward type. He's big, but rarely physical.

I wouldn't mind Clowe for MacA+Franson. But not Malone. I'd prefer to get a prospect/picks for them two though. Then throw a late pick at Brendan Morrow as a mentor

Clowe is a possibility hopefully young players like Ross Biggs Ashton Broll Monahan can all learn from a Clowe type who could slide down roster as kids develop

Grabovski won't finish 2014 in Toronto - might even be a Duck with Phil and Cody by this year's trade deadline.

The answer is nothing. Grabo has the one of the best work ethics on the team and has excelled in other areas of the game that Kadri still hasn't including face-offs and defensive play. If Grabo had 5 points and Kadri had 3 at this point then this thread doesn't exist. At this point Kadri would be moved before Grabo IMO.

I guess the better question would be, if Kadri excels at center, which one of Bozak or Grabo becomes expendable. I think it'd be Grabo who gets traded, seeing that he'd net more return than Bozak, we can't pay him 5.5/year to play 3rd line, and we already know he's not gonna be playing with Kessel/Lupul on the 1st line. Roll with Kadri/Bozak/McClement and get someone to play 1C. But again, this is all assuming that Kadri surpasses any of them, which at this point is too early to tell.

What is wrong with keeping Grabo and Naz? Good to have depth at center. Honestly if any player were in danger of losing a position to Naz it is Bozak, if Kadri can figure out the faceoff.
