There is not a single thing he has done to warrant that option being picked up. Nothing. Outside of the hot start last year, we've barely been a .500 team with him at the helm.
I was just making sure there wasn't any reason I was forgetting that there might be for him to be back. Looks like there isn't, good then. Wonder who comes in to replace him then?

If Willie makes it far in the AHL playoffs and Dallas doesn't fire Gully, some other team will hire him in a heartbeat.

I've said it before, but I really just worry Willie will have the same mediocre results at hte NHL level as Gulutzan did. Yes Willie has a much younger/inexperienced team (and no Jamie Benn) than Gulutzan did in the AHL, but it's still a crapshoot.

Anyways, no way to know but try. And I agree, he'll be gone soon if we don't give him a shot.

So any NHL team could snatch up Willie in the offseason right? I am all for giving Willie a shot at the NHL level, he just seems like a cool-headed ideal coach at any hockey level.

After giving it some thought, I'd hire Willie. He knows where all of our prospects need to be put to be successful, and he's shown that quite clearly. I don't see why he'd be such a bad choice if we're able to sign a top 6 center. He'd bring a more possession style game that the team needs to be playing.

Willie, Boucher, Laviolette, Tortorella are all awesome options to go with.

I'd go with any of those guys excluding Boucher. Boucher does a 1-3-1, and this team can't run a proper trap with our defense.

Don't forget Willie also was an associate coach with the big team, he's not so foreign to our players.

To me this is a downside, not an upside. He absolutely was part of last year's failed coaching staff, and maybe even failed Power Play.

What about Muller? Could they pull him away from Montreal's AHL team, and if they could should they?

You mean the same Kirk Muller who's been the coach of the Canes since 2011?

Meh, so I forgot one coach got promoted. And it's Carolina not a big market where you get bombarded with the names of their coaches and players on a daily basis (Toronto, NY, Boston, Montreal, etc).

What percentage of NHL fans know who the coach of the Stars is? I'm going to say around 15%.

Honestly, that figure seems pretty ****ing generous. We'll have a much more clear picture of the coaching landscape when the season is over, you know a few teams are waiting to give their coaches the axe once 48 games are played.

He's not having that problem in the AHL. Also can't forget when the white board would come out.

It's hard to say until we know who the GM will be. Like I said in that thread, that should be a relatively quick thing.

If Joe is fired it will happen soon after the season. They won't drag it out. Finding his replacement could take some time, but at least we'll know they're starting from square one.

If Joe is staying, obviously we'll know that pretty soon as well.

So far now, other than the obvious possibility of Desjardins, I'll throw out a guy with Dallas ties.

Derek Laxdal

I don't know if he's ready, and endorsing him as the pick is the last thing I'm doing. I just know I've seen his name get head coach buzz in the past.

He coached the Idaho Steelheads for 5 seasons including winning an ECHL championship. I think he and most people were probably surprised Dallas/Texas passed on him to replace Gulutzan in Austin.

After he didn't get that job, he left for the Edmonton Oil Kings in the WHL, and he's built them to one of the best teams in the league. They won the WHL Championship last year, and they're up 3-2 on Calgary right now in the West Finals. They could be playing Portland again for a chance at repeating.

He's got an impressive resume for sure, but I'm not exactly excited about getting a guy with pro experience only at the ECHL level.

You beat me to this too.

I didn't want to mention this until I knew Nill was likely the guy ...

Curt Fraser, Dallas' current assistant, was the head coach for Detroit's AHL affiliate Grand Rapids.
