AV chased the money. I don't blame him for that, though I'd rather do anything than coach in the fishbowl that is NY. I'm also not upset he's not the guy. This is a very young roster that's going to have some huge turnover in the next season or two. I'd much rather have a guy committed to the kids than someone with the knee jerk veteran must be better or have earned more than a kid who's going through growing pains but has obvious talent.
Please no Torts. Can I haz Ruff please. The fact that I have been reduced to that makes me sad. Save me Nill, you're our only hope.
Really don't know anymore who we're gonna end up with now that AV ruled out Dallas, I really believed he was gonna be our next coach. Now I honestly think its a toss up between one of Ruff, Blashill and Torts. And personally I don't mind any of those 3 candidates, I trust Nil knows what he's doing.
I also don't think Tippett leaves if the Coyotes stay and doubt Nill will wait long enough to find out since he said he wants a coach before the draft. Who knows but I'm not gonna count Tippett as a candidate just yet.
I know that a lot of people for various reasons just want nothing to do with any Stars past being part of the present but I really think that Tip would be a great coach for this team in current circumstances. He's much more experienced than when he first came here and he would be working with a smart and respected hockey mind. We have much more and better prospects than when he was here and we also have steady ownership (and money) which is something that he hasn't had recently in Phoenix. Aside from his stubbornness in playing young players early on in his Dallas tenure, he's good at working with young players and demanding accountability.
I wouldn't have a problem with any of the other candidates (though Tortorella's inherent shelf life bothers me some) but I'm really starting to think that there's been so much roster turnover since Tip's days in Dallas, even more if Robidas were to be traded, that it would be a virtually completely different team for him to coach. As things currently stand there are only 3 players currently on the roster from his time here. Everything is different.
The Griffins are up 3-1 in the series, lost game four Friday. Game five is Saturday night, so hopefully they can finish off the series. I'd assume Blashill would have to do the exit interviews first, then he could be interviewed.

I've been told chances of Dave Tippett leaving Phoenix to coach another team is very unlikely. Tippett is currently building a house in PHX
I don't understand where all of this Tortorella hate is coming from. Don't like a guy who speaks his mind? If memory serves me right, a lot of you were unhappy with the reported attitude in the dressing room. What kind of leadership do you think changes that? It's definitely not a 'player friendly' coach.
Also, short shelf life? What?

Don't see anything there to back that claim up.
So what's the real reason for not wanting a cup winning coach?
So would you rather have somebody who beats around the bush like we've had since Tippet left, or would you rather have a no ********, proven winner, and defensive minded coach who's great with young players? Seems like a no brainer to me.
Here's more 'negative' Tortorella stuff. *Language warning*
Lots of shot blocking.
Holds players accountable.
What am I missing?

Yeah there's a pretty big difference in the way Crawford and Tortorella coach. Either you see it or you don't.

That comment to Brooks was awesome. I don't remember that one.
How is it so bad to play for this guy when he's standing up for the players all throughout that clip? IDK ... unless he's just some monster behind closed doors, seems like you're talking about a bunch of players who don't want to be accountable.
Hell ... I think we all have some healthy hate for most members of the hockey media. We're lucky in Dallas, but this sport has some arrogant, center of attention snobs like Larry Brooks.
I'm not saying I want Torts in Dallas, I'm OK with whoever Nill wants, but I think I was buying in too much to the media hype machine. A guy that defelects attention from players when they need it while holding them accountable in the lockerroom, how exactly is that a nefative?
Yeah Tortorella's Cup was almost a decade ago. It's pretty irrelevant. Unless you're a guy like Scotty Bowman or Al Arbour who carry around a pocket full of rings....but then again even Glen Sather has a few.
It's about the right kind of coach for us right now. I don't put any stock in a single championship won nearly a decade ago. Tortorella isn't my choice at all - whether right or wrong I just don't like him. I want discipline and accountability too but you can get those things from someone without the charades.
You could argue that Hitch was fiery and some players weren't his biggest fans, but Tortorella takes it to a whole 'nother level I think and he's far from the game planner Hitch was/is.
As for AV:
We pursued him hard. Even had a 5 year contract on the table. He was obviously leaning at least slightly towards NYR since he gave them time to gather their marbles.
They came this close (I'm holding my fingers half an inch apart) to hiring Mark Messier Thursday. That was Glen Sather's choice, but his choice alone unfortunately. Things changed with them yesterday (Vigneault's deadline to them) and here we are.

He's like a really really strict military dad who is super tough on his kids, but loves them to death.
He wants them to be successful and will hold them accountable and yell at them if necessary, but it's all because he wants them to be successful. I'm all for whoever Nill thinks is the right choice, and if that's Torts, I can be ok with it.
Our team could use some accountability and tough love. Torts might be the right guy for the job. However, is there any way in hell that Richards would come back to Dallas if Torts was here?? Hahah
