New Jersey/Minnesota

Haven't done one of these in a while... and I guess I'm in the mood to get yelled at:

Minnesota receives:

Andy Greene (Signed through 2015, 3m Cap Hit)
Brandon Burlon (Defensive prospect)
3rd Round Pick

New Jersey receives:
Devin Setoguchi
Marco Scandella

I'd say value is definitely there. Greene is very underrated.

Also, Burlon is a very good defensive prospect that would be hard for the Devils to give up... but with Larsson, Merrill, Gelinas, and Urbom... he may be expendable.

That's why I added the draft pick from the Devils since Scandella is a better propsect than Burlon.

Interesting. What kind of player is Greene?

He's a typical Devil. Plays solid in all situations. He's good for 15-35 pts each season.
He also has great leadership qualities.
Also- pre-mature hair loss.

Eh. I guess I'm not seeing the value in Greene. He kind of sounds like a watered down Nick Schultz.

If I am wrong on my assessment, please let me know. I am not all that familiar with him.

We really need an edgy d man to help balance out our backend.

Burlon does sound intriguing however. There is merit to this trade proposal.

It would be really tough for me to find videos that show his best asset which is his work in the defensive zone. I can't tell you how many times either Marty of Andy's D partner brain farts and Greene comes to the rescue.

i could see the wild pulling the trigger on a deal like this if seto continues to not find his place in our lineup. Greene is def an upgrade over scandella atm and that pick is also nice.

I don't know about this from a Devils perspective.

I don't want to see Greene go at all, even though he had a rough game last night. He's very solid.

Also, I would want a forward instead of Scandella. No room for him at all. We don't need anymore defenseman or defensive prospects (even though he is kind of in between this line). We're adding to a position of strength while neglecting our weaknesses, which is forwards on the NHL level and prospect forwards.

Wild fans, would you do something along the lines of:

Mattias Tedenby or Brandon Burlon + Henrik Tallinder for Setoguchi

I personally think the above is a more realistic trade offer, while Tedenby is one of our more offensive gifted forwards, he just doesn't fit in New Jersey, the system and his style of play conflicts too much. Not sure on the value of Setoguchi though, to be honest.

Very smart defenseman. Small, but makes up for it with excellent positioning. Outstanding skater. Good first pass. Shot is weak but accurate. Very strong offensive upside, he gets above average offensive production despite playing on the shutdown pairing. +40 point potential if he were allowed to roam freely. Great instincts, generally makes very good decisions about when to pinch and when not to. Excellent in both attacking and defending during transition. When he does make defensive mistakes, he's usually quick enough and smart enough to get back into position and recover before any harm is done. Not physical, but knows when to take the body and is willing to stand up for his teammates/goalie. Plays the shutdown role effectively, but can get worn out if you give him heavy minutes over the long term.

Low-end #2/outstanding #3. Comparable in style to Joni Pitkanen, Sami Salo, Kyle Quincey, Jordan Leopold, but I'd argue better defensively than most/all of them. I don't want to give him up at all to be honest, I think he's criminally underrated.

We already have your 3rd rd pick from the Zidlicky trade. It was a conditional pick and NJ met the conditions when they made it to the ECF.

Thanx for the Greene analysis AfroThunder396. I knew he was more in the PMD stripe. Didn't know he was also a defensively sound Dman.

Schultz couldn't connect on an outlet pass to save his life tho. Greene sound more Tom Gilbertish. I do agree we have more of a need for a big nasty Dman. I do think Scandella will become that type of player for us. Fair trade value. I don't think fills our need. Although after reading the report on Burlon he would make for a nice prospect in our system. Still leaning more towards the Seto-Depres trade prop in another thread. All things being equal, two fair trade proposals in two days on HF. Odd.

Ill pass as a Devils fan. Fair value, but I it doesn't solved our surplus of defensemen and if we're dealing arguable our best defenseman (Greene) I would like to be someone who generates more offense than Devin Setoguchi.

Not a bad proposal to be honest, but I think the Wild are looking for more of a defensive defenseman. And Wild aren't ready to give up on Scandy.

And I think if Seto is moved, it's a 1-for-1 deal with similar salary and term. Salvador actually would be more what the Wild are looking for, but since has just named captain two weeks ago I'm guessing you guys aren't moving him

Seconded, Greene is the best defenseman we have so we can't let him go.

I'd be interested in taking Gionta back, but not for Greene.
