You can't see how adding significant salary in a year when the salary cap is decreasing by 6 million could be a problem? I assure you that it certainly could be a problem.

I don't understand... all I've heard for 6 months is that Vancouver has no cap troubles at all. They could keep both goalies and be fine.

Now trading one of those goalies and adding 1.4M is suddenly a problem? Strange. You add Lack as your back-up at league min, you have excellent depth for this year under a 70M cap. Next year you move one of your wingers to KEEP a guy like Kessel. For example, let Higgins go [as I've heard a millions times already that's going to happen] and you pretty much break even.

It's a ridiculous argument.

Canucks should keep both goalies for this season.

Once they get healthy they will contend for the cup.

Having two really good goalies for the playoffs is not a bad thing IMO.

Trade one in the offseason.

The canucks have no problem keeping both Luongo and Schneider until the beginning of next season. If you understood that they would have no trouble keeping them both next season, I think that is a misunderstanding on your part.

Your math is way off. The canucks would be right at the cap trading Luongo for Kessel this season. Substituting Higgins for a minimum wage player saves the canucks (1.9m-5.25m)=1.375m. The salary cap is decreasing by 6 million, so no...letting Higgins go would not let the canucks "pretty much break even".

Whatever happens the canucks will be trading Booth or Ballard in the offseason.

Kessel is a legitimate goal scorer and infinitely superior to anyone Kesler plays with consistently, relatively speaking. I do not see the two having any difficulty long term.
This is an extremely valid point. I can remember countless times where kesler would make a sweet play to set up his linemates only to watch them ****** it up. After awhile you realize you have to do it yourself and he became the line (the other 2 simply turned into fillers). Because of this his game has adapted into a much for selfish, do-it-all-yourself style. Now like you said there is no reason to think that he couldn't bring back more of his playmaking talent with a legitimate winger.

Honestly, he would benefit immensely from having another bonafide scoring threat to take some of the pressure and opposition's defense away from him.

And is absolutely disgusting. I'll be bold enough to say it rivals Chicago's ridiculous 200910 roster; surpassing it even.

Would you guys do Schneider + Gaunce + two firsts or some combination that excludes Jensen and Kassian?

I admit it fits better than I expected. However it requires losing Ballard+Booth and resigning Higgins and Lapierre to perhaps unreasonably low contracts.

BAH! Seriously?

Schneider, AND (with Gaunce) 3 first round picks?

For Kessel?

Schneider, Gaunce, 2013 & 2014 1st Rd. picks for Kessel?

Schneider + Gaunce + one 1st is what I feel is fair and makes sense for both sides(plus he already agreed to it)

RFAs need to be qualified with raises. You also need more cap space to prepare for injuries.

Hey, if we can get him for Schneider + Gaunce + one first. I'm all for it but I would pay a premium. Kessel would border on a fifty goal scorer on our roster. Ideally, if we paid that high, the Leafs would keep a small portion of Kessel's salary (million or so)

Only Schroeder and Tanev are due raises, which will be marginal at best. I'm sure Gilman can work it out by skimming a bit off a few of the other players we need to re-sign.

And if anyone get's injured, they can be placed on IR. We've had experience using it in the pass to bend cap limits. It's certainly not unfeasible.

I would like to reiterate that if that trade happened, I would burn Rogers Arena to the ground.

I would never consider giving up Schneider and two 1st rounders for Kessel.

Assuming we don't work a deal where the Leafs keep a portion of salary. Dropping Higgins or Raymond is always an option in an absolute worst case scenario.

The canucks don't want to be doing that the entire season. The Calgary Flames were forced to play with sub-20 rosters for stretches at the end of one year when they tried to get by too close to the cap.
