Probably been discussed, but I'm not going to search this whole thread for it. Why don't they allow me to watch games that are on NHL network on GCL? I don't get the NHL network on tv, so it shouldn't be blacked out...

Yeah I'm in the US. So Sens games are blacked out in Toronto? Do they show Sens games on TV there through sportsnet?

Someone's probably already answered this but like several posters before me I'm too lazy to check through the thread.

Is there any way to get the feeds even though the game is being broadcast in your area? I want to watch my Buffalo games, but I don't have the channel on my TV would they be able to accomodate me??

I don't think it can be done on TV if you have the CenterIce subscription.

It can be done on a traditional computer using the free Stealthy plugin for Chrome or Firefox, if you have the GameCenter Live subscription.

And make sure once you have the game up and running, that you turn Stealthy off ;-)

What's the significance of turning stealthy off? Sorry if I wasn't clear with what I said, I want to watch Sabres games on my computer, but I live in Buffalo so it's blacked out. This Stealthy plugin will allow me to watch them?

Thanks guys

It would keep slowing you down, the picture quality would be very bad, etc. Stealthy is only needed while you're launching a stream.

By the way, there are also NHL blackouts in Germany (though this can never be justified, in my opinion!), so some posters here suggested picking a country like Brazil (under option #4 in Stealthy -- avoid the default option #3), because hockey blackouts in Brazil are unlikely.

I just paid for a one week membership at hockeystreams.com and I must say I like it much more than GCL. First of all, it's cheaper and you also get CHL and KHL games, not that I'm looking for those (just putting it out there).

It works great as on mobile devices as well, having tried it on my iPhone. The picture is in HD, and most of all, there are no black out restrictions which I think is what most users are looking for. It's a deal breaker right there. I live in Ottawa, which means all the Canadiens games on GCL are blacked out for me, even though I would love to watch the game when I'm coming back home from class in the bus. I was able to do so tonight thanks to hockeystreams.com.

Not to mention on-demand games (full games) are available right after the game.

One thing is certain: if the NHL is going to treat their paying online customers in this way, slapping them around with senseless blackouts, they're gonna lose to pirates in the long run.

Trying to watch the Isles @ Rangers game from the full-length replay via Apple TV right now, but the game keeps buffering every 30 seconds or so, so it's basically unwatchable. The Kings @ Preds game, though, which I was watching live (with a 1-hour delay), was top quality.

If it's not on TSN or CBC, you can watch Sens games in Toronto on GCL. No proxy/unblock required. If you can't, there's something screwed up about your ISP.

How appropriate that a single game is being played in the NHL tonight (Friday), and the NHL ****s over their European paying customers again, blacking them out?

I can absolutely guarantee you that no generally accessible TV channel is showing the game in my country. Even if it were, that's TV, and I very much prefer watching the games using other devices. Not to mention silly Czech or Slovak announcers -- I don't want to listen to them at all: I want the original language feed (ideally with the ability to select the home or away feed).

Seriously: the game started at 2:30 a.m. for us here in Europe. That's dead in the middle of the night, two and a half hours after midnight. What kind of revenue is it exactly, NHL, that is escaping you at this ridiculous hour of the night, that you need to employ a blackout on a different continent from where your damn league is being played?

One can only sadly smile at seeing corporations acting dumb like this. The music industry, the movie industry, you name it... they seem unwilling to be learning their lesson. If you insist on enraging your customers, instead of delighting your customers with the services you provide, you know where this will all end eventually: piracy will win.

Can they get the memo before everyone deserts them?

Stealthy guys.

Also cannot even watch any replays right now, let alone the vault still.

Yeah... but it still sucks because it reduces you to a single platform (traditional computer), with no access via mobile apps, Apple TV, etc. NHL shouldn't be selling such half-assed products. When I buy a season to watch it online, I want to watch all of it online, period. Especially if I live across the globe from where the league takes place, and I have no local team in the contest.

hmm nice, that site seems to be everything GCL should be .. just crazy that the official stuff is always worst than the 'less official' ones.

i subscribed to GCL this year but the insane 48 hours blackout policy in Europe is just not acceptable and i'll probably look for alternative when playoffs begin and for next season.

so i checked that site with great anticipation, but damn .. you have to put your credit card directly on the site, there is no paypal option .. and i don't think i trust that enough to do that ... even more when their 'privacy policy' page is completely outdated saying things like 'We do not store financially sensitive information on our website to ensure your safety. All financial information is handled via PayPal.com.' which is obviously not the case anymore

i also notice how they also call it donations instead of payments probably for 'legal' reasons, i mean ... is that site ok to use safely ?

so any more input on this site from long time users, is the credit card info stored with your profile or used only during the transaction, can we trust it ?

thank you

You know, however unlikely that is, I'm afraid the FBI might come knocking on your door one day, especially if you agree to put your credit card number on file with the site... this definitely happened in the past to folks purchasing illegal p0rn, so I wouldn't take it lightly. In fact, I'm amazed that that site is still live. I can only advise that site's fans not to advertise it here or elsewhere too loudly.

My point is different: that if the NHL employs these senseless blackouts, enraging their paying customers, especially those living on other continents from where the NHL is played -- then some form of piracy will always prevail in the end. They may shut down one piracy site, and another will pop up to replace it. (See Mr. Kim Dotcom's case.)

Wouldn't it be a lot more preferable for the NHL to offer an online service that would make their customers 100% happy and satisfied, so that they would happily resubscribe to NHL GameCenter Live every season? Right now, it looks like the NHL would perhaps do well to rename their online service to NHL BlackOut Live. It's disgraceful. Tying an online webcast service to the NHL's separate deals with totally obscure, pay-for TV channels (that's what's happening in Europe), must stop, now.

I would also like to know more about the safety of hockeystreams? The site design looks like it would be illegal... No idea if it is or not, how are they allowed to stream every game when GCL can't?

So beyond fed up with the way NHL is treating its UK fans, and even more dissapointed in the new crappy as hell channel called Premier Sports which is allowed to show a bunch of games in the UK with the worst TV/streaming I have ever come across. And due to them, GCL get blackouts here!! Including tonight's full coverage of HNIC.

About to "donate" to hockeystreams on my Mac, just need a bit more background info on them...

I'm a gamecenter live subscriber, and so far I've either gotten the game on tv, or it hasnt been blacked out, so I've been lucky so far. The one time I was away from home during a blackout, the NBC sports app had the game on anyways...

Anyways, about the illegal porn thing... I wouldn't worry about something like that from hockeystreams. Hockey isn't illegal, so theres much less reason to go bust the members of the illegal site. The site itself might get in trouble, but the users I would bet would be ok. The illegal porn thing, the business, as well as the customers were all engaging in highly illegal activity, not just pirating legal porn.

I could be wrong obviously, but I'm guessing the FBI has bigger fish to fry. I tried hockeystreams trial a couple years ago and it was horribly choppy, they must have gotten better. I thought it was more expensive this season though than gamecenter live.

Here's a question for people who have Dish Network. I'm at my parent's place for the weekend and last weekend they had NHL Network. When I came back yesterday, it was gone. Did anybody else have this happen to them or is this just me? I had the channel on 9541 for almost a year and don't understand why the would just get rid of it so suddenly. I had NBA tv and a couple of other channels as well in the 9500+ channel range that are gone now too.

From among the 3 NHL games currently in progress, I'm blacked out of 2. Let me say that again: there is no Slovak TV channel broadcasting these games. Only some obscure foreign pay-for TV channels that one might or might not be able to subscribe to in this country. And even if these games were shown on an easily accessible Slovak TV channel, I'm not interested in watching them on TV -- atrocious Slovak announcers, and so on, and so on.

I suppose this is my last season as an NHL BlackOut Live subscriber. Enough is enough.

That was strange, I was blacked out of all the games, so I just logged out and back in and now the blackouts are gone

I just checked and I am also blacked out here in the US to all the games except the Car/Phi game. I get the Pens game as that is on the NHLN but the other 2 i should be able to get. i just think GCL is afu right now. Normally I don't have this problem.
