Hamilton 'Happy' to not be in Toronto

Quote:
He was born in Toronto and grew up playing minor hockey in St. Catharines.

But when it comes to the NHL, Dougie Hamilton will take the Bruins over the Maple Leafs in a heartbeat.

“I’m just happy to be here (in Boston) and happy I’m not in Toronto,” Hamilton told the Toronto Sun.

Who can blame him? If you were a 19-year-old defenceman with a team that won the Stanley Cup just 19 months ago and had the chance to play alongside Zdeno Chara, wouldn’t you feel the same?

Of course, he can’t completely escape the Toronto scene.

With friends and family in attendance, the Bruins will visit the ACC next Saturday for a Feb. 2 showdown with the Leafs. Having been selected ninth overall in 2011 with a pick acquired by Boston in the Phil Kessel trade, he can expect to be swarmed by reporters from the moment he arrives at the rink.

Having been through the same experience two years ago, Brampton’s Tyler Seguin, another remnant of the Kessel trade, was asked if he had any advice for Hamilton in handling the Toronto media onslaught.

“You can’t prepare for that,” Seguin chuckled. “How?

“He’ll have fun with it.”

the rest of the article is chara praising him but I thought that was a great quote.

I'm not surprised, he could ask Phil Kessel what it's like to see Chara and Lucic 6 times a year.

While being the only team to miss the playoffs lockout-lockout.

Thanks for that! Dougie is a Bruin already.

Thank you Kessel? Oh yea...

Segs owns the Leafs, so he will have a big night.

In a very, very, very, very small way I feel bad for Kessel. Here he had Savy and was poised to be a 50 goal guy. He gets dealt to the Leafs and he gets a steady supply of sub par talent. Be careful what you want Kess, you just might get it.

Hard to feel bad for Kessel at this point. I don't begrudge someone for leaving to make more money but it's not like Chia was asking him to stay for peanuts. Burke just offered him an insane contract and Kessel waited it out until Chia had no choice.

But because of that you are now under the intense Toronto microscope. They love you there but you are now THE go to guy.. You are the reason they win and the reason they lose.

You just gave up playing for a Stanley Cup contending team.. the team that drafted you in order to get more money and play on a bottom feeder.

He made his bed and now he has to lay in it. Granted that bed is lined with millions of dollars so I'm sure he's not too torn up over it.. but in the end, he chose $$$ over winning AND his team mates. The Bruins were RIGHT there in terms of winning the Cup and they proved how close they were shortly after the trade. Kessel isn't stupid.. he knew it too.. That just didn't appear to be part of his goals at the time. /shrug

Kessel is set to become a UFA after next season, any chance he chooses not to re-sign with Leafs?

I just always remember that last year when mark recchi said "99% of us are committed to winning a cup."

I'd say there's probably a good chance of that.

If another team comes a-callin' with a bigger and better contract, absolutely.

I don't think Doug Hamiliton is nearly as happy as we are that he isn't a Leaf

We should offer him 3.75 mil. With the caveat 30 goals is perfectly acceptable on the 3rd line; Pevs and Kelly can do all the "scarwy work", free food vouchers, no pressure to go to the gym, and he gets his soul back.

Or else it's...

THANK YOU KESSEL boom boom...boom boom boom...THANK YOU KESSEL

For the rest of his career.

Try to convince Roeper of that on the main board. He seems to be under the impression that the Leafs can still just out bid everybody, and salary cap be damned.

Someone really should break it to em that not only is there a salary cap, but that the cap is going down next year...
It's way more fun to watch em blubber on about fat Phil though.

What do you expect him to say? He's sucking up to the Boston fans and media.
If he got drafted by the Leafs, he would be saying how great it is to play for his hometown team. He should keep his mouth shut and enjoy his stroke of luck.

Why would San Jose fans chant "Thank you Boston?".

Do they enjoy choking every season?

I have to say 4 or 5 of my Bruins buddies here in Ontario, made comments and jokes about Kessel signing with us.. even went as far to say Burke walks Kessel into PC's office

1. Joe left with very little animosity. He was viewed somewhat as a victim in the trade. Bruins fans have very little reason to hold in any sort of contempt. Sure, we point to his softness, and his inability to step up when needed most, but he is what he is and he kept his head down.

Kessel was soft, aloof, and is seen as having instigated the trade. There's no doubt that he has some great skills, but he's also flawed. There's a lot that Bruins fans can point to in the Kessel drama that rests with Kessel or our expectations of him. The fact that he is more than partially responsible for the Bruins snagging some amazing talent makes the whole Kessel drama a hilarious gift that we continually like to give thanks for. Who better to thank but Phil himself?

2. San Jose is far from a rival. Toronto is a rival. This makes everything so much more enjoyable.

If Phil was seen as Joe was, it would've been over a long time ago.

I wouldn't want to play in TO the same way I wouldn't want to play in MTL. Tinfoil hat fan(atics) & braying media jerks.

I thank Kessel before eating my cheerios every morning.

And when my man Knight gets up with the big club and starts ponding bodies I'll thank him even more

Phenomenal. Had this presser happened before L'affaire Thomas, I'm sure Timmah would've had something similar for Haggs.

On a similar note, did anyone happen to see Pedro Martinez getting Shank Shaughnessy to sign his book? The curly-haired boyfriend, of all people!

Didn't they collaborate on that book? BTW, I believe it was the infamous Carl Crawford who bestowed the CHB moniker. God bless him.
