Our defense is the problem.

LEAVE DUBNYK ALONE!

Doobie (yeah I don't care that's my preferred spelling ) has been great so far. Can't really ask much more from him. He hasn't lost us a single game (we deserved to lose the game he got lit up) but has kept us in nearly everyone so far. I hope we keep him around the organization for a long time. Sure we will probably look for a goalie when Khabby's contract is over, although I honestly don't mind bringing him back on a ~$1 Million contract, I think Khabby has been quite underrated during his time here. Find me a single goalie in the league that has had to play in front of a worse team over the last 3 years. However things work out in the future though, I am a-ok with Dubnyk on the Oilers. I honestly think he is comparable to Schneider but with less hype. If we keep Khabby around or maybe bring in a solid backup like Giguere or whatever is availible on the market, then I think the Oilers will be find in terms of goaltending. Defense is where they need to focus their attention to anyways.

Most shots against in the league. Very similar stats to Ryan miller thus far, and that's including the period of hell. He's just so calm and seems very confident this last week or so. I'm starting to get my hopes up... Rarely a smart move as an oiler fan.

He's keeping it simple and it's really helping him. He's begun to use his size and is letting shots hit him, while keeping good control on his rebounds. Very happy so far

Yea I don't see how anyone can ask any more of dubnyk right now. He's proving that he can be counted on to be steady and win games for his team. I am worried about over playing him though. Khabi needs to get back to 100% and give this guy a break so that he's fresh and raring to go when we make a push for the playoffs.

I don't know about 5 or 10 years down the road, but he's the guy now, CLEARLY, lets maybe LOCK this thread up and revisit it closer to say, the trade deadline.

if his defence didnt give up clear cut shots from prime scoring areas he probably has 3 shutouts right now. I am high on him right now, trending up

We all knew this was going to be an issue. Or at least we shouldn't be shocked. Just like it shouldn't be a surprise that we have turnovers.

We were a lottery team for the past 3 years. Added Yak, Schultz, Fistic isn't going to all of a sudden make us a contender.

He still lets in a few too many soft goals for my liking but as of late he's also making a lot of saves he has no business making.

If he's able to keep that up, I'll take the trade-off.

took a quick look on espn in regards to some stats.
I liked to see where Dubnyk is in the standing sorted by save %, then scroll waaaay down and enjoy where Kiprusoff is located. I know it's early in the season, but it makes me happy. lol

Funny you say that, amongst our friends he's more often coined as "Jugs" than "Dubey."

The anointed one: Cory Schneider is also sub 0.900. If this continues, I'll be thrilled.

The consistency to play at an elite level for several games in a row was my biggest problem.

He's played as many games as Henrik "Areyouevergoingtogetabackup" Lundqvist in NYR. And he has a better stat line than Ryan Silver Miller.

A-ok.

If you take out his first period against San Jose 2 games ago (6 goal on 17 shots), then his Save% goes from 0.921 to 0.945, which is good for 2nd in the league (not counting Dan Ellis who has played 2 games only).

I'm not entirely confident in Dubey just yet but you can't be unhappy with numbers like that.

Discussing this now game by game is silly, whether you like him as a #1 and he just played well, or you don't like him as a #1 and he just played poorly. Any discussion of Dubnyk before the end of the season is premature. The differences between good #1 goalies and bad #1 goalies can only be seen on the scale of a full season.

See ya in a few months, thread.

Dubnyk plays great just needs to work on some things. Like, he's always going down so fast. Seems like everything is going top corner because hes dropping so fast. I think he just needs to challenge a little big more. But all in all dude seems legit to me.

He cost us the Calgary game, giving up a brutal goal.

He has played well but his horrible goals are going to continue to cost us if he can't figure it out.

Nobody should be surprised by that though. If Luongo can't get that team a cup, Schneider's got no hope.

He had maybe one goal in the Calgary game he would have wanted back.

It's funny, I thought the total lack of desire and hustle from any player on our team was the main reason we lost to Calgary.

He could play his angles better but the reason that goaltenders are good these days (as opposed to the eighties) is that they drop on every shot. If he has his angle down and someone can put a puck over his 6'5 shoulder, more power to him.

Ive never seen a 5 hole goal on him that was just a straight snipe shot, so it's nice he doesn't let those in. But yeah play the angles and try filling up that net. "standup" goalies are a dying breed of goalie but sometimes it's needed to be that type.
