Best "classic" prog rock band

Curious who you like the best out of these, IMO the four "biggest" prog rock bands. I did not include Pink Floyd because they would win too easy. Nor did I include Rush because I don't really consider them "prog".

I tried to include the best known bands, so no Gentle Giant, and none of the modern bands. Just the late 60's/70's ones.

King Crimson fairly easily for me. All of them are good, though.

King Crimson for their solid discography spanning several decades.

Yes, However made the greatest album of all time in Close to the Edge.

ELP has some great stuff, but a lot of it is also really bad.

Epitaph might be one of the greatest songs ever written.

Its King Crimson for me.

King Crimson are my favourite band of all-time so it's easy to guess who I voted for.

Would have traded ELP for Pink Floyd. Don't really see ELP as contenders.

Genesis for me. In their glory days, the band had such a distinctive sound.

These bands have a lot in common. One or two great albums, but the rest of the catalog filled with obnoxious, indulgent ********.

Hard for me, I love Yes and Genesis, Selling England by the Pound is one of my top 10 albums of all time. I also love Close to the Edge. Grrr.

King Crimson in a landslide for me. Do people find them comparable? I really like the atmospheric melody driven sound of King Crimson.

Could never really get into Yes. For me the timing shifts, and changes of Yes seem way more abrasive, not sure if that makes sense. Just never found them as fluid sounding.

I feel about Genesis the way you feel about Yes. I find them kinda grating. I like Selling England but I can't get into Foxtrot or The Lamb Lies Dies On Broadway.

For Yes, I adore Close To The Edge. That album is great, and I like The Yes Album as well.

King Crimson made ITCOTCK, Red, and Discipline which are all incredible so I chose them in this poll.

Anybody like UK? Anybody ever heard of UK, for that matter? Eddie Jobson, Alan Holdsworth, Bill Bruford, and John Wetton. Heard them live at the El Mocambo in Toronto way back when. Incredible band with nearly telepathic sensitivity toward what each other were playing.

Hammill in particular is brilliant, and there have been mentions of UK and Gentle Giant (no Focus?) but I think OP is right that these four are the "big four" of classic prog.

For me, it's Yes.
