it looks like brittain is struggling. Perhaps we could use another goalie prospect. Any worth looking at in the later rounds this year?

I like Patrik Bartosak for the 4th or 5th. I wouldn't say Brittain is struggling as much as Okinura(or whatever his name is)is just better. I mean who saw some kid from Finland coming over to Denver and stealing Brittain's job? I certainly didn't. But a smart team should have insurance in all positions, so I'm all for continuing to draft goalies on the regular.

There's a few free agent college goalies that we could also take a look at. There are a couple of guys in the USHL that may be worth investing a late round pick on this yr (Charlie Lindgren, Eamon McAdam, Michael Rotolo) since they usually go the college route and they can keep developing there for the next 4 yrs.

Signing Houser last summer was smart so we have more depth and he could continue to develop into something too. Houser was 8th in the ECHL this season in GAA (2.55), 7th in Sv %(0.917), 15th in wins (17) and only played in 29 games for Cincinnati. I could see him really competing for the backup job in San Antonio next yr.

Wouldn't touch with a barge pole in the 1st round.

Bartosak isn't a bad idea in the later rounds.

Some updates. Lindholm and Barkov are basically finished for the year. Barkov is injured and rumours are it may be 6 months. Will definitely miss rest of playoffs/U-18/World Championships. Byrnas were eliminated from the playoffs, and Lindholm is a 94 born, thus his season is done.

Nichushkin scored the game winner in the conference finals to keep Traktor alive versus AK Bars. His playoff performance is really exceptional for his age. Is outproducing Kuznetsov with half the ice time. There is a twitter messaging quoting an NHL European scout who says if Nichushkin isn't selected 1st or 2nd overall, it is purely down to the Russian factor. Mckenzie/Button have both stated he's percieved by many as a Top 3 player. It seems in terms of solely ranking players, Nichushkin is very close to Drouin/Mackinnon. I wouldn't say i expect us to draft him, or that i actually want us to select him, however he's without doubt in their tier according to various reputable sources.

I think we can wave #1 good bye. Calgary and Avs are beyond horrible and we're starting to pick up pace.

Let's keep winning and draft Lindholm at 5th!

What makes you go for Monahan?

Lindholm is insanely talented and I see him as this year's steal.

I'm still holding out hope. Our remaining schedule looks brutally so hopefully at least Calgary can pull out some wins. Sounds like Colorado may be on the Jones train anyway? We'll see.

One of the comparisons for Monahan has been Jonathan Toews. So it would be like do you want a Toews or do you a want a guy like Backstrom (who Lindholm has been compared to). Our team would be fine either way but I agree that I prefer that Toews type myself too.

We can't go wrong either way, it's just my preference. Monahan brings leadership, grit, size, power forward ability and he has spectacular numbers for playing on the worst team in the OHL this season. He's been a premier OHL player for years.

If everyone continues current pace, the bottom teams will end up with the following number of points:

PHI - 45
TB - 44
BUF - 44
CGY - 42
FLA - 39
COL - 37

That's 9 points in 11 games for Florida.

If they play ".500 hockey" (ie. go 5-5-1) and continue the pace of the past 10 games, they'll have 41 points and remain at #29.

Drouin had 41 goals, 105 points and a plus-48 rating in 49 contests for the Mooseheads in 2012-13.

In two seasons, he's produced 48 goals, 134 points and a plus-43 rating in 82 games. The 5-foot-10.75, 185-pound player had a 29-game point streak from Nov. 30, 2012, to March 15, 2013, collecting 26 goals and 65 points over that span

I know most are in favor of Mackinnon if we can pick him but I still feel Drouin is my choice moving forward. We are loaded with Centers right now, Drouin could become Tallon's Patrick Kane v2.0.

The numbers speak for themselves, A potential powerplay unit of Huberdeau - Bjugstad - Drouin makes me

I feel Colorado will finish last, Calgary 29th and us with 27-28th. I say we grab Drouin and have our top 2 forward lines set for years to come

Huberdeau - Bjugstad - Drouin
Flash - Matthias - Mueller

Or any varying combos of this top 6.
For all the Versteeg haters, he can be dumped down to 3rd line and 2nd PP minutes.

People are adding Galchenyuk and Yakupov to the 2013 draft class and ranking players. Most of them have MacKinnon / Drouin over them.

Not quite, he scored the first goal on their 5-6 OT loss to go down 1-3 in the series.
He then assisted (basically gifted the goal) on Petri Kontiola's OT goal, to get the series to 2-3.
Series is now tied 3-3 heading into today's deciding game 7, which Traktor is leading 2-1 with about 1 minute left.

I don't think there is any significant difference between Galchenyuk/Yakupov and MacKinnon/Drouin. All four can be premier NHL Forwards. Yakupov is the best pure goal scorer of the four but perhaps the least dimensional. Galchenyuk is the big classic center which is quite rare. I certainly wouldn't say Drouin/MacKinnon are obviously better prospects.

Chino Oscar ; Nichushkin will reportedly attend the U-18 world championships instead of playing in the Gagarin cup finals. Nichushkin is the only player of the Big 7 who will therefore attend this tournament, so all eyes will be on him.

Monahans stats are impressive. He had like 77 points and second highest was around 40 points. Need to watch him more.

There's also Eric Comrie who is said to be pretty good too. He's in the WHL.

Comrie and Fucale will be gone by the end of the 2nd round. I don't think we will use our 2nd on a goalie, so we are looking at who would be available with one of our 4th round picks at the earliest. At that spot I like Patrik Bartosak or Phillipe Desrosiers. Desrosiers will probably be gone by then though.

After the TDL, picks are looking exactly the same with Oilers 4th added. So:

1st
2nd
3rd (Wolski trade, after that this TDL; from NYR [Clowe trade] to SJ to PHX [Torres trade])
3rd (Canucks pick acquired from Higgins trade, traded back in Booth trade)
4th
4th (Oilers)
5th
5th (Devils pick acquired from Ellerby trade, traded to Buffalo for Brennan)
6th
7th (traded to Dallas for 2012 7th, Florida picked Jonatan Nielsen)
