Random intermission offering... Went skiing with my wife and kids yesterday in utah. Wife kept complaining all day that her knee was hurting. I looked down at her skis and saw that she had accidentally swapped skis with someone named KUZNETSOV.
This was pretty alarming to me and i spent rest of afternoon worried it was an omen about Caps blue-chip prospect.
Fortunately my wife misinterpreted my brooding as concern over own discomfort. So she thought i was being a good husband (as opposed to neurotic Caps fan).
It's really not. Look at teams that go deep. Caps would get absolutely skull****ed. They may get past 1 or 2 well oiled machines but then they'd eat **** and die. It's pretty much empirical.
- we have one guy who knows what a wrist shot is. Maybe 2 with Backstrom but it seems he's forbidden from using it.
- we have 21 million dollars in cap space spent on Erskine, Poti, Hamrlik, Schultz, Brouwer, Ward, Laich. That's a grand total of 0 legitimate top 6 players and 0 legitimate top 4 defensemen.
- our defense beyond Alzner and Carlson is still a mess, 8 ****ing years after the rebuild started.
- getting Ovechkin and Backstrom going again requires putting together a team that looks like it can win the whole thing, not just on paper but when playoff nuances are factored in. Ovechkin's game is completely enthusiasm based. Hard to get your enthusiasm up when you know you're ****ed from the beginning.
Show a little optimism and belief in your team dude, stop being such a downer.
This team was good enough to beat Boston last year and take NYR to a really close game 6. This was with coaching that didn't really fit our playing style, and with Ovechkin, Backstrom, and Green all struggling.
Once our PP gets going and the system Oats is implementing becomes more familiar you will be singing a different tune. Add a few pieces at the deadline and we could make a run at the cup, look at the start LA had last year. People were quick to criticize them yet they went on to destroy everyone in their path in the playoffs after adding a few pieces at the deadline.
