2014 WJC Teams

With post draft hype still in effect, how do you guys seeing the WJC teams shaking out for each country? Will McDavid make the roster?

I think McDavid would have no problem being a 2nd or 3rd liner, but he is still two years away from his draft.

Maybe not this upcoming tournament, definitely next tournament.

After his showing at the U-18's I don't know how you can't take McDavid, especially if MacKinnon, Drouin, Monahan etc are playing pro.

This.

McDavid is a lock for the team because so many of the top players are going to be playing in the NHL.

Even if they weren't, he'd still probably make it, albeit in a smaller role.

Monahan is 50/50 I think on making the Flames. They won't rush him. He will have to show he is ready.

I do think McDavid makes the team though. I don't see how you could leave him out at this point.

I wonder who the captains might be?

Not just cause he is a Canucks prospect but I think Brendan Gaunce would be a good candidate to wear a letter.

Nurse should be on the team, as should McDavid

Shinkaruk, Gaunce and Horvat should all have good chances to make the team.

Anyone think Jordan Subban could make it as a 7thD/PP specialist?

Not even if he takes another step offensively and scores PPG?

OK, I shouldn't have said no chance. But his chances are very, very slim. Even if he does come out and scores at a blistering pace he still will have the odds against him because he isn't on the summer evaluation camp.

From a Senators perspective...

- Lazar should make TC, Driedger will get a shot.

- Hogberg will get a chance to make the Swedish team. No idea about Lindberg

I think that might be it for the Sens next year.

Calgary has a few options who will likely be in the mix

Sean Monahan - Canada
Emile Poirier - Canada
Morgan Klimchuk - Canada
Mark Jankowski - Canada
Jon Gillies - USA
Patrick Sieloff - USA
Rushan Rafikov - Russia

He definitely has to step up because he has stiff competition. Josh Morrissey was outstanding at the U18's and Shea Theodore was also decent. Both play the exact same role as Subban.

I think Subban has way too much competition to get the job. He'd have to take one heck of a leap up to get it. Plus, let's be honest if it wasn't for his brothers you would have no idea who he was and would never consider him.

Is Gibson still eligible? If not, Gillies should be the starter after backing up Gibson last year.

Excited to see Monahan and Jankowski get chances at the Canada roster.

Gibson is not eligible. Gillies is the likely #1 with Anthony Stolarz backing him up. Thatcher Demko will probably be added as the 3rd for the experience (he isn't eliglible for the draft until next year).

Malcolm Subban is a 1993, so he won't be there.

For the Habs:

Canada
Charles Hudon (almost a near lock as he 'made' the last team before injury, Sutter coming in may change things though)
Zach Fucale (lock? I think so, at least as the backup)

USA
Mike McCarron
Brady Vail

Sweden
Sebastian Collberg (lock)
Jacob de la Rose (lock)

Finland
Artturi Lehkonen (lock)

Slovakia
Martin Reway (lock)

I believe Charles Hudon will have a greater role than the 13th forward.

Ceci and Subban are too old for this tournament now.

For :

Canada - Brandon Whitney (G) and Dillion Fournier (D) could be in the mix. Both seem like long-shots at this point, Fournier more so than Whitney.

USA - Vince Hinostroza (F), John Hayden (F) and Tyler Motte (F) have shots. Chris Calnan (F) could be in the mix as well, depending on how the first half of his freshman year at BC goes. Ryan Hartman (F) is a lock.

Finland - Teuvo Teravainen (F) is a lock.

Sweden - Carl Dahlstrom (D) and Robin Norell (D) have shots. Robin Press (D) may have a chance as well.
