Yeah I'm taking him over Blake, Goodfellow, Blake, Bouchard, Kasatonov, (and Lionel Conacher) at least. I have no idea on Chara or Tremblay.

That peak is too good for me to ignore. The guy was possibly the best player in hockey for a five year span, plus has a solid (I do put stock in leading defenseman in scoring during that time. There was a lot of discussion about whose property he rightly was before that time, meaning he may not have been respected necessarily by the media because of his mercenary-like nature) career prior. I don't think anyone else can say they're close to that peak among that group.

I don't by any stretch this he was a "steal" where we got him. I think right around here is his area. I wouldn't take him over Stewart, Langway, or Niedermayer. I just think he was better than a lot of the defensemen picked before him.

Did you pay attention to the conversation between Devil and I last year vis-a-vis the generation in which Stuart competed? Hockey during this time was limited to a small area of Canada - basically Ottawa, Montreal and a few surrounding towns. Stuart had four terrific seasons as maybe the best player in the world in the first decade of the 20th century, but how does that compare to Rob Blake's four seasons as a top-4 defenseman in a much more competitive environment?

It's hard to say. The possible range of Stuart's greatness is rather wide. This is, unfortunately, the case for all old-time players.

I apologize for the long wait , I was genuinely hesitating between a bunch of players and had giving up on the idea of trading my pick since I couldn't find a trading partner but gmm pm'ed me out of the blue and we worked a deal as quick as possible.

Has anyone else noticed that Reds has 3 Centers already?...Apps, Crosby, and Malkin...Fun to see a non-conventional approach...I'll be very interested to follow his team and see how it turns out.

That's a nice pick, monster. Maltsev should go at least 20 spots higher, IMO.

Can't go wrong with strength down the middle.

Now, the question is, do Crosby and Malkin = strength down the middle from an ATD sense.

Both have the peak but do they have enough of it when in comparison to careers?

I think Mr.Bugg's Soviet gong show of a team last year may have turned some GM's off from drafting them, but Maltsev is legitimately knocking on the top 100 door IMO.

Really like the Maltsev pick...you have to be extremely happy with your decision to pick Pronovost at 114...there's been a big run on defensemen since then, while the value you may have lost at center is pretty small.

I am happy he was there, and not too worried about no C yet. Centre's tend to fall. You can grab a serviceable 2nd line C in round 8 or 9 even.

Well, Maltsev can play C, too.

Both C and RW are quite deep. Hard to say at which position he has the most value, to be honest.

Is there any issue with him being less effective at RW? I know almost all of his Soviet League AS teams came at C

With Pick 144 of the 2013 ATD the Baltimore Blades proudly select Defenseman Jan Suchy

Known as the European Bobby Orr Suchy should play well with Horton and give the Blades a good 2-way 1st pairing.

Next has been pmed.
