Washington has had trouble out of the gate, as have the leafs though it's only been five games, but if the trend continues would this trade make sense ?

To
Wsh

Phaneuf
Macarthur
Stuart Percy
2nd 2013

Tor
Karl Alzner
Troy brouwer
1st 2013

This trade would give the leafs a very solid shutdown dman and a 2nd 3rd line tweener with great size and grit as well as a mid to late first in this draft. Washington gets a 40+ point offensive defensman who can hit like a truck and despite his last two games has played very well this year, as well as macarthur who provides a little more scoring then brouwer but without the intangibles and percy who is a very solid shut down d prospect and an early second to balance the loss of the late first. What do fans of each team think ?

Phaneuf + for Alzner? No thanks.

If Washington continues to suck and that 1st is top 10 then sure.

That's what we want.

I'll take that for our slurring captain.

No. We're looking for another Alzner, we're not looking to give up the one we already have.

I don't think a team as stupid as ours to begin with could survive a hockey IQ downgrade from Alzner to Phaneuf at 1LD.

Then there's the fact that we don't need more offensive defensemen and would be paying Phaneuf 5x more than Alzner to be worse at defense.

And everything beyond Phaneuf is crap on a stick. Not anywhere close to enticing. Like, throw everything out from both sides not close.

Just because you don't know anything about Percy doesn't make him "crap on a stick"

MacArthur and Brouwer are a wash.

I thought the pure value of the trade was balanced, but you will always have fans drama queening it up I guess. Atleast a few posters like yourself can see this thanks.

Okay, let me rephrase that, we have absolutely zero need for him.

MacArthur and Brouwer are a wash the same way MacArthur and Wolski are a wash. If you want an on-ice Brouwer comparable Kulemin is relatively close, and we all know which one of Kulemin and MacArthur leafs fans prefer by a mile.

Can we stop with the phanuef/kessel proposals. Leafs aren't trading their captain or best player. Kessel I do is as expandable but with the price we paid for him it'll have to be a very clear overpayment

The OP indicates that Washington gets an offensive defenseman in Phaneuf. Washington has offensive defensemen, Mike Green, John Carlson and Dmitri Orlov. What Washington needs on the blue line are more Karl Alzners and not less.

I don't think anyone should have to stop anything on here, it's a hockey discussion board lol. Also I'm not an advocate for trading players just for the sake of a trade I'm fine with keeping dion and phil but if we can get better through trade and add for the future why not. This thread is not a reaction to the leafs last couple games by the way because I knew that they wouldn't be competative this year. Now just relax and if you don't want to see the proposals don't click on them, it's a simple concept.

MacArthur and Wolski are a wash? Wolski hasn't scored 20 goals in 7 years. MacArthur's done it back to back.

So you're not interested in Jeff Schultz?

So I take it you'd MacArthur over the 7 goal Kulemin in a heartbeat?

They're a wash in the sense that they're both tweeners on contending teams that need to be upgraded. Wheres Brouwer's physical game makes him at least suitable for a 3rd line role that does not need to be upgraded, or a top 6 fill-in whose value comes from creating space for his linemates, much like Kulemin.

Please don't compare Brouwer and Kulemin.

Kulemin >>> Brouwer

Yeah, we've got three right side, offensive defensemen, and an assortment of over the hill pending-UFAs and scrubs down the left after Alzner. Not going to work.

Of course he is

And Kessel >>> Ovechkin. And Leafs >>> Every other team amirite?

There's 1 ">" there at best. Brouwer is a 35-45 point winger who hits everything that moves and is a great screener. Kulemin may have more offensive ability but he's not a 60 point wing yet like Leafs fans love to pretend. More like 45-55, and while he does play physical he's not that kind of hitter.
