You have several key UFAs that could land nice pieces. The only way this happens though is with a GM change. Joe has shown no willingness to do that.
Grossman?

The talent in the 1st round is pretty damn good so I think teams could be reluctant to move them.

I think you're looking at potential prospect + 2nd on the high end for some of those guys, and mostly 2nd or 3rds likely.

I thought they were an easy 10-20 finish in the league. I can't see that anymore. I think they're likely an 8-14 finish.

With the goaltending they have, they'll pick up wins.

I have some hope that he'll feel that way about Reilly Smith and Alex Chiasson/Matt Fraser so they'll move some of those guys, but the reality of the situation is they need a true sell off of older assets with expiring contracts.

That has never happened.

They actually have 3 IIRC which is freaking sweet. I think LA's was a conditional that gave CLB the power to choose last year or this season.

No he didn't. That was just fluff he told the media. His actions showed he didn't value Fistric either. Joe has shown actually quite a lot of willingness to shed UFAs.

I guess the good news is you have to think that our owner will not hesitate to fire anyone he feels is responsible for this.

If Nieuwendyk has to go to see some real change in this franchise I'll take it. Basically the entire roster needs to turn over for things to improve.

Wouldn't it be cool if there was a way to be competitive and still land him. (What are the new lottery chances)?

This right here is something to dwell on, especially after he just offloaded Fistric. GM Joe proves at times that he can make some GREAT trades, and then makes some absolute head scratchers. Consistency would be nice.

Yep.

Only way we're getting close to that spot is if the lockout had gone the entire season.

Including letting Turco and Modano go.

Outside of Kari, which at the time was a complete gamble really, what great trade as he made?

So far, every single one he's made has turned out good for both, or in the Goligoski trade, absolutely awful for us.

Wait a second ... trading one UFA is quite a lot of willingness?

Fistric doesn't fit that mold at all. Joe's been extremely reluctant to trade useful UFAs. The only one has been Grossmann.

Fistric wasn't even in Dallas' Top 8 considerations going into this season. That was pretty clear, and he's a 7th D in EDM.

I don't have a problem with GMJN, the Goose trade looked amazing at first and I'm okay with who we've drafted.

I really doubt we just miraculously turn this thing around. By the time serious changes are made (Gulutzan canned) the damage will already have been done in a shortened season. The back to backs are going to murder us. We need to be in sell off mode ASAP.

That's one of the few things that has been absolutely terrific under Nieuwy. Never have we had as much prospect depth as we have now.

Judge is still very much out on the Roy trade. If he decides to not sign with us we traded Steve Ott for less than half a season of Roy.

Both of those fit into the "good for both squad" trades.

The Eakin trade will turn out to be amazing if Eakin continues along this path. And hopefully Roy re-signs and plays as well as he has for us.

But both of those are still in the air at the moment...
