I think he has a shot at being a legitimate first liner, the duo of Galchenyuk and Eller could be one of the best duos in the NHL, toss in Gally or Patches and we have our franchise forward line for the next 10 years.

I called it last season and I am going to call it this season, he will turn more heads and when he is finally given PP opportunities from DD he will rack up the points.

I'm not guaranteeing he could be a first line center but its possible. Now how good a first line center is a different question altogether. I don't think the toolbox is quite there to be elite but its close. He irons a few things out and he could be pretty dominant out there.

Eller looks to be a great 3rd line center with the likely potential to be a good 2nd liner. More than that ? Lets see.

I have liked Eller a lot, from the first games he played with us. Im glad he finally was given a chance to play with talent and show us what he has. Its great he is popular, but Im getting wary about the expectations people are starting to have for him. I think people are getting carried away, which is fine, except I don't want to see all the love turn to hate on a dime with the Trade Eller Now threads just because the kid doesn't turn into this Super Viking some people are starting to see him as.

He is going to get 50+ points next season.

Will he have 60 points is the real question.
He needs PP to break the 60 points level.

Top ESP were Pacioretty, Galchenyuk, Eller, Gallagher, Desharnais, Gionta and Plekanec.

Assuming Pacioretty will maintain his 0.85-0.90 points/game production he's had over the past couple years and Galchenyuk develops into a top 6 forward, Eller and Gallagher's development/performance will have a HUGE impact on how this team is built going forward.

If Eller manages to put up similar production to last season over a 82 game season - 50 to 60 points - and Gallagher manages to keep building on his rookie year - 50 to 60 points - then the Habs essentially can plug in permanently much of the top 9 for 5+ years

LW
1. Pacioretty (1988): 65 - 70 points
2. ?
3. ?

C
1. Galchenyuk (1994): 50 - 80 points
2. Eller (1989): 50 - 60 points
3. Plekanec* (1982): 50 - 60 points then 35 - 45 points when 35+ in age

RW
1. ?
2. Gallagher (1992): 50 - 60 points
3. ?

*Plekanec I think could still be at worst 3rd liner in 5 years. Too smart to not be still effective at least defensively at 35/36.

The rest prospects/trades/UFAs. Of course, if Eller and Gallagher fizzle out, the future looks A LOT more bleak.

I want Eller this season to be more accurate with his shots. Too often he misses the net or put it right in the goalie chest. Its the only thing he really need to improve on I think to be an effective top 6 forward

Eller already did the great 3rd line center shtick in 11-12. I think he did the really good 2nd line center thing last year.

It's more than fair to say I'm overrating Eller but I've been 'overestimating' him right from his first games with us and he just keeps improving so I'm sticking with my guns! I still think Galchenyuk will be this team's first line center eventually but Eller could do a very good job bridging the gap until that happens.

I wanted to start a new thread but I'll ask it here.

Eller is RFA next year.

Would you sign him long term before he has a big season?

What terms would you sign him?

Money and lenght.

I think it'll be tough to sign him for less than what DD got, barring any surprises in this coming season. But if he'd take a little less money for a little more term, Eller is one of the players I'd be willing to gamble on on this team.

I see him with that potential as well, so you're not the one.

He has the size, speed, skill and two-way play to be a #1 center, but he needs to work on his shot because would have had more goals if he didn't miss so often.

By my count he has 3 years of RFA left, and he is signed to the end of next season, which would leave 2 years of RFA left for us to leverage into a long term deal. Can anyone confirm my belief ?
