Last time Ottawa played the Capitals, the game was a national broadcast on TSN. Karlsson definitely earned some Norris votes that game. Announcers kept talking about him, and Karlsson delivered.

further investigation is warranted concerning narcolepsy and vaccination against influenza (H1N1) 2009 with Pandemrix and other pandemic H1N1 vaccines. An increased risk of narcolepsy has not been observed in association with the use of any vaccines whether against influenza or other diseases in the past. Even at this stage, it does not appear that narcolepsy following vaccination against pandemic influenza is a general worldwide phenomenon, as no excess of narcolepsy has been reported from several other European states where Pandemrix was used, or from Canada where a pandemic vaccine similar to pandemrix was used. This complicates interpretation of the findings in Finland and Sweden. It seems likely that some as yet unidentified additional factor was operating in Sweden and Finland. The findings from the VAESCO project and further investigations in Finland and Sweden, may help clarify the determinants of any increased risk of narcolepsy, which currently appears to be restricted to the months following vaccination and by age group and country.
http://www.who.int/vaccine_safety/co.../en/index.html

Two extra cases per 100,000 based on only preliminary inquiries in Sweden and Finland.

Besides, I seriously doubt an incidence rate of 3 per 100k will stop the Sens from mandating flu shots for players.

Tell me about it. Apparently there's a show called The Young and the Restless too.

Silferberg with a flu shot in the top corner tonight. Better have Influenza edition GDT tomorrow.

I don't wear seat-belts cause sometimes they cause deaths. If people want to listen selectively to doctors, let them .

Ok, based on Sunday, EK is sick - I forgot just how fast he can get up the ice.

Triple the risk = no big deal.

If you say so.

The Sens can not "mandate" flu shots.

Anyway, you are free to get a shot, I am free not to. Good luck with your immunity goals of 2013.

Alfredsson missed Sunday's game with the flu. Karlsson and Smith both have/had it.

Problem is this though. People not wearing seatbelts only hurt themselves, but people not getting vaccines can and will hurt other people because herd immunity requires a large enough segment of the population to be immunized before it works.

Triple the risk, in children, the most common group to be diagnosed, in one preliminary study... for a disorder that is thought to be genetic/autoimmune. If you accept this stuff so easily, we should get you a job with the FDA.

Triple the risk for a very low incidence rate, for children, based on preliminary findings that demonstrated a number of potential variables that compounded that risk into those triple-the-risk incidence rates (read: possibility for intervening variables, and seeing how Canada had no reported cases, it is plausible that those variables were specific to Sweden/Finland, or that the methodology increased the number of reported cases accepted by those states), including age group and country of residence.

Fair enough. Mandate is inaccurate. My point remains - the Sens may very well have a mandatory flu-shot policy for players.

Final note: I'm not getting a flu shot, I just find it silly that people overreact to flu shots. There's no need to fear getting it, but there's no need to race it to get it, either. The mortality rate for influenza virus-related deaths appears to be pretty small within Canada and the United States, and the incidence rates for side-effects to the influenza vaccinations is similarly small.

Just get a better immune system or deal with getting sick. Needles in general are just bad.

Anyone else remember how this team did the last time Spezza was out for an extended period? @_@

It wasn't something I was even aware of until recently. I think the doctors/health care do a poor job educating about vaccines. It doesn't help that the average joe's become experts based on hearsay/slanted news reports and meaningless anecdotes.

Is Spezza buying groceries again? We need you.

Spezza's back is going to be an issue for his entire career, and really his entire life.

It's going to flare up now and then. That's just how it is.

What are the conditions for emergency call ups? Can you call up guys if you just have a group who are sick or do they have to be injured? That might explain the 'injury' maybe they are covering their bases by saying its an injury to open the door for an emergency call up tomorrow if needed? /conspiracy theory #probablyhisback

Well here's a good one, if no cars had seat belts would people drive more safely?
