How has Salo looked?

This is a question for all you lucky fans who get to see the Oilers training camp and preseason games.

I heard that Salo has been working all summer with a goalie coach to improve his technique. Its sort of rare for a veteran goalie to seek technical help, but I think it will help Tommy take his skills to the next level. So from what you've seen so far, is there a difference between this year's Tommy Salo and last year's? Should we expect him to improve his numbers from last year? An effective Salo will be the difference between a 5th spot and an 8th.

Appreciate it, thanks.

Tough to say really. He's played in two halves of two games and only faced 15 shots total. As MacT said afterwards "Tommy's going to start thinking he's playing for a new team because he usually gets that many shots in the last 5 minutes of the third period with us!"

But the important thing is that he has been able to keep his head in the game. Facing 7 shots in 30 minutes is not what a goalie wants to do... you tend to get cold.

He came up with a pretty nice save in the second though.

He needs a 50 shotter sometime this pre-season!

I thought I had heard that Peeters never did work with Salo over the summer, but Tommy did more work than usual playing various sports (badminton?). Then Peeters started to work with him as soon as he arrived in Edmonton...and that this wasn't Tommy's idea (management's). Still, he seems to be keeping a good attitude as usual, so if it helps, GREAT!
