The Florida Panthers have had two sellout games and the team is seeing an average of 18,211 fans per home game, according to Sunrise Sports & Entertainment.
Because it's the reason. Have you seen their deals???? I'd bet that 7-8k for the Habs gets more money than 18k for Panths.
because comparing a growing (and note of it, it's GROWING) market to one with 100+ years of established history/tradition with ZERO competition locally is a smart business proposition.

the cheapest ticket at BB&T center is $16.50 according to ticketmaster.
guess half the nba teams should fold/move, too huh?

you said "it's the reason" for their improved crowd, when it isn't.
the reason for the improvement is pretty damn simple. the panthers, for the first time in TEN SEASONS, made the postseason. THAT'S the reason. they put a good team on the ice, and fans are showing up. two of the three games they have played have been played well over capacity (19,250)
comparing them to a team like montreal is completely laughable and pointless. get off your high horse.
more teams than not have low ticket prices with the economy the way it is, so trying to negate the positive momentum the panthers have created by citing their low prices is idiotic. for those wondering, the give-aways the panthers used to be well known for are a thing of the distant past. they don't even give ticket vouchers to season ticket holders anymore (which were the last give-aways they were offering) and haven't for the last two years. (source: i'm a full season ticket holder). so the numbers you see are numbers earned.
all this being said, this momentum with the fans is going to hit a huge, fat brick wall if their putrid play continues, because we've been an ungodly disgrace so far this season. i can't even put into words how bad this team has been so far this year. it'd be a damn shame if they can't capitalize on what they did last season.

here in Vancouver i paid ticketmaster $337 each for the CHI game and $244 each for the SJ game...it might be cheaper for me to drive to Cali and watch some games there

if cheaper prices get people in the seats, that's all that matters, getting concession, parking, and merchandise money is as important, if not moreso, you just need to get them in the arena
well, the ESPN percentage number seems to indicate 'official capacity' is ~17000, and it was 19,250 before the renovations. Did they really remove 2,250 seats?

2011-12 capacity: 18,720
2010-11 capacity: 19,245
does anyone have details on exactly how many seats were removed in the renovations?
People likely bought tickets thinking that perhaps the Panthers would continue their competitive play from last Season, but so far the Panthers have let them down. But it just goes to show though, that in certain places it's just a matter of entertaining the fans by being competitive, and the fans will come. Let's see how long it lasts if the Panthers continue to flounder again as the Season rolls along.
My understanding Danishh is they were not removed but rather previously tarped off... thus reducing the number of available seats when tarped.
Also, there may have been some actual seat reductions towards the lower levels with Loge's and the addition of Club Red this past offseason. Someone, perhaps flapanthersfan, jol, or PantherHockey1 could better provide details on that.

I paid $9, no fees from a mall within 5 minute walk of the building.
They had a kiosk set up, we were just killing time and ended up buying tickets.
Cheaper than lunch in a foot court.
Just goes to show, again, that winning is the most important ingredient at the highest of professional levels. Fan experience and loyalty can be improved over time as fans continue to support the team.
It looked pretty empty to me last week against the Senators, but I might be wrong!
nhl reported it as 15,634, which seems about right. Maybe a bit high from what i saw, but close enough.
carolina game (home opener) was 19,688
philly game was 19,311
btw, this means they're still tarping (didnt notice in the ottawa game, but i wasnt looking for it and the cameras dont go there much. ESPN is using their tarped capacity as 100%, which is blatant attendance number juicing.
that's not to say that 18211 average isnt impressive, because it is, but the 106% is ********, and you have to consider that the two games that they did draw well were saturday nights, including the home opener.
