Most underrated captain?

Some notables imo:

Brown
Pominville

Who do you think?

consistently mentioned among the worst, when in reality he is an excellent captain.

I'm wondering how he is mentioned as the worst? Last season he crapped the bed but other than that he is usually an all-star, Canadian Olympian, etc. and well thought of. He is one of my fave players.

Dunno but when HF has polls on captains, he always ranks very low on the list.

Do you mean underrated as a captain or just as a player in general?

Either way the answer is Gionta.

Good one. But maybe if he had a bit higher point totals.

Not to say he's a bad captain, but after last Spring I don't think there is much about Dustin Brown that is underrated anymore.

I'd go Horcoff, you don't hear much about him and some Oiler fans don't love him but watching Oil Change he looks like an excellent leader.

Who could Phaneuf possibly be overrated by?????

Almost everyone outside of Toronto has an obsessive hatred for the poor man.

The "outside of Toronto" part was pretty key to the answer to your question

How do people judge this kind of thing? Unless you are in the locker room/on the ice it's pretty hard to tell whether the Captain is doing a good job or not

I would say Henrik Sedin. If this was put to a poll he'd probably be leading by quite a bit...

I took the OP's question as who is the most underrated player who happens to be a captain. Not who is the most underrated player at the job of captain. Otherwise you're right.

Strongly disagree, and not too sure what the video was meant to prove.

I will say David Backes, Jason Pominville has also been a very productive player with little praise.

Probably a consistent point producing player who plays on the PP and PK and top line at ES but is forced to compensate for a stuffed suit good ole boy head coach who still tries to play hockey like it's 2006. He probably is also the mayor of a village whose population is represented by his goal totals. To top it off he must be French Canadian and have a not so secret love affair with poutine. Also a bonus if he had to clear waivers at some point in his career.

Initially I interpreted it the opposite. Probably wouldn't hurt to clarify the OP.

I think Streit and M. Koivu are often underrated as players. I guess they'd be my picks.

Mikko Koivu. Since the Wild have been terrible, play in the Northwest, and until this year, are never on TV, not many hockey fans know how good he is. From what I can tell from comments, coaches/players around the league know. Despite Parise and Suter, its Mikko's team. A leader by example type in terms of work ethic.
